Bacolod Doctor Andres Gumban Jr. Killed and Videotaped by 2 Minors (Video)
The two teenagers who stabbed to death Bacolod-based physician Andres Gumban Jr. took a mobile phone video of the grisly killing they committed at the victim's house in Barangay Alijis on the night of May 10, police said.
The video, which runs for 5 minutes and 18 seconds, was shown to reporters at the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) yesterday.
Suspects of Pascual Jr., 18, of Brgy. Tadlong, Sagay City, and a 16-year-old from Cadiz City, are now detained at the BCPO lock-up cell.
Gumban, 63, a pulmonologist who is also engaged in a number of businesses in Bacolod, sustained about 35 stab wounds, based on the autopsy report.
Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, city police director, said the video debunks the claim of the minor suspect that he stabbed Gumban to defend himself from the doctor's sexual advances.
"It establishes that there was no sexual assault. We can see that the two suspects conspired to kill Dr. Gumban, and there is treachery," De la Paz said.
Gumban met the minor suspect on Facebook and invited him and his friend Pascual to come to Bacolod that day. He later brought them to his house.
The video, taken using the cellphone of the minor suspect, captured the series of events that led to the death of Gumban. It showed the boy, wearing only a pair of shorts, hit the doctor, who was standing in front of the kitchen sink, with a stone on the head.
When Gumban fell down, Pascual stabbed the doctor four times. As the victim was struggling and calling for help, the suspects continued to hit and stab Gumban as they dragged him towards the bathroom. The minor went inside to apparently make sure that Gumban was dead. Pascual closed the bathroom with the two inside and went to Gumban's room.
As the minor went out of the bathroom, the video showed him sliding down the bloodied floor. After that, both suspects were also shown washing themselves off with blood. Towards the end of the video, the doctor's sprawling body was shown, and the minor suspect also showed his face.
De la Paz said the video was among the pieces of evidence they submitted when they filed the case for robbery with homicide/murder against the two teenagers before the City Prosecutor's Office yesterday.
