Robinson's Galleria Fire

Miles Ocampo Regrets Playing Hard to Get with Marco Gumabao in “Luv U”

Puppy love is normal among teens. But to enter in a relationship at a young age is something that is not easy. This is why Miles Ocampo doesn’t want to rush having a boyfriend.

There’s a right time for everything. I have to be careful in my every action and decision,” Miles said.

Miles’ love team mate Marco Gumabao, on the other hand, is flattered to hear that a lot of girls have a crush on him, especially those who are now hooked on “Luv U.” He, however, clarified that Miles is his only sweetheart on camera as they created a wonderful rapport already.

If other cast members of the “Luv U” have an “it’s complicated” status, it’s certain that the program remains as the no. 1 teen-oriented comedy show in the country.

Data from Kantar Media shows that “Luv U” got 9.7 percent TV rating nationwide last Sunday (March 4), which is higher than its rival show’s 8.1 percent.

“Kilig” moments in “Luv U” continue this Sunday. Camille’s (Miles) will decide to play hard to get from his suitor JB (Marco Gumabao). What if another girl - a sexy cheerleader - gets in the scene and befriends Marco. Will Marco and Camille’s teen romance push through?

Find out in “Luv U” this Sunday after “ASAP 2012” on ABS-CBN. For more updates, follow @LUVUBarkada on Twitter, or like the show’s official Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/LUVUBarkada.

Gabby Lopez: ABS-CBN Finds Fulfillment in Inspiring Pinoys

Gabby Lopez: ABS-CBN Finds Fulfillment in Inspiring Pinoys

As the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate, ABS-CBN finds meaning in making shows that inspire the Filipino through shows that reflect their values that affirm their self-worth and recognize their strengths.

This was the key message that ABS-CBN chairman and CEO Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III imparted in this year’s Pinoy Media Congress (PMC) held recently at Colegio De San Juan De Letran, Manila that the Kapamilya Network hosted for about 1,000 mass communications and journalism students from all over the country.

The fulfillment that you experience by doing something that has a positive impact on the lives of people is a more lasting reward than the glamour and the pay,” Lopez said.

Lopez told the future media practitioners that the media can bring about change by communicating the right values, advocacies, and fair and honest information. He said there is still a lot of work to be done to make the Philippines a better place and that work is what awaits young people who will be joining the media industry soon.

To millions of Filipinos out there, the media are their source of inspiration and empowerment. We live in a country that has been waiting for so long for prosperity, peace and pride. All these cannot be achieved by the president doing them alone and all elected officials. True and lasting change, as Mahatma Gandhi said, can only happen if we - all citizens of this country - can become the change that we want to see,” Lopez said.

Other ABS-CBN leaders who shared their media expertise in the 7th PMC were digital terrestrial TV marketing head Miguel Mercado who turned everyone excited about the ‘future’ of television or the benefits that digital TV will bring to the Filipino viewing public; news and current affairs head Ging Reyes who stressed that the tenets of journalism remains amid the emerging multi-platform technologies in media; Star Cinema concept development group head Enrico Santos tackled how Philippine cinema can be socially responsible; and creative communications head Robert Labayen imparted creative ways to connect with Filipino viewers via advocacy plugs.

ABS-CBN Foundation Inc. managing director Gina Lopez was a big hit among the young crowd who cheered for her cause by shouting “Yes to Life! No to Mining in Palawan!” while regional network group head Jerry Bennett and RNG news and online business head Charie Villa turned their closing into an on-the-spot contest about their ‘Choose Philippines’ campaign where they gave away t-shirts to lucky delegates who quickly answered their trivia questions correctly.

Studio 23 and Cable Channel and Print Media Group (CCPMG) head March Ventosa tackled the emerging market trends; ABS-CBN Manila radio division head Peter Musngi shared how radio responded to the changes in media technology; customer business development head Vivian Tin enlightened the participants about the Filipino audiences and how ABS-CBN fulfills their needs and wants through its programming and other products; and TV entertainment production head Linggit Tan, joined by PBB production manager Mercee Gonzales, talk unit head Lui Andrada, and business unit head Deo Endrinal shared the kinds of TV entertainment that Filipinos want.

Other industry officials and experts who spoke at the event include Kantar Media general manager Gabriel Buluran who presented the current Philippine media landscape and how Filipinos consume media; Campaigns chair Yoly Ong who discussed emerging market trends; and MTRCB board member Atty. Eugenio Villareal and KBP president Ruperto Nicdao who both tackled how their groups are protecting the audience through media monitoring.

The PMC delegates were given surprise treats as Kapamilya stars ASAP Pinoy Champ Angeline Quinto, Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) ex-housemates, and “Dahil sa Pag-ibig” star Jericho Rosales graced the closing rites of the event.

Mounted by ABS-CBN, in partnership with the Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE) for the past seven years, the Pinoy Media Congress had won Awards of Excellence from the Philippine Quill Awards given by the International Association of Business Communicators Philippines in 2007 and the Anvil Awards given by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines in 2008.

TV5 Achieves International Goal for David Archuleta's ‘Nandito Ako’

TV5 Achieves International Goal for David Archuleta's ‘Nandito Ako’

What seems to be a simple move for TV5 to boost its popularity in the Philippines turns out to have a bigger objective.

By bringing over American Idol sensation David Archuleta to star in its primetime series Nandito Ako, TV5 has been successful in its aim to tap a global market as proven by the tremendous popularity the show has gained in different countries since it premiered last February 20.

Nandito Ako and other Nandito Ako-related phrases and hashtags (i.e., “Oh My Josh Bradley,” “Watch Nandito Ako Marathon,” “David Archuleta in Bunny Suit,” “Run Josh Bradley Run,” “Nandito Ako Week 2,” “David Archuleta is Josh Bradley,” among others) have been consistently figuring every night in Twitter trending topics not only in the Philippines but also worldwide. The show has also ranked high in Twitter trending topics in different countries such as Malaysia, Vietnam as well as in various states in the US. Further, David Archuleta’s first drama venture via Nandito Ako landed on the pages of international newspapers, magazines and online sites.

With TV5’s international expansion through Pilipinas Global Network (PGN), Nandito Ako has proven to be an effective vehicle in attracting potential viewers and supporters worldwide. Due to Nandito Ako’s international popularity, TV5 now has a following of Filipinos overseas as well as non-Filipinos who were initially David Archuleta fans but have learned to love the show and its cast.

The move also paved the way for Filipino artists, particularly home-grown TV5 talents Jasmine Curtis-Smith and Eula Caballero, to be recognized in the international scene.

Now on its third week, Nandito Ako keeps viewers hooked with its relatable and compelling story. In his attempt to find his long lost mother, Josh Bradley (David Archuleta) and Anya (Jasmine Curtis-Smith) end up in a coastal province far from Manila. Here, they are forced to be together all the time despite their mutual dislike. For Josh, it’s the only way for him to find his mother; and for Anya, a fulfilment of the promise she made to her best friend Holly (Eula Caballero). Will the two stand each other’s presence? Or will their mutual dislike brew something sweeter?

Nandito Ako airs weeknights at 9pm after Wil Time Bigtime on TV5.

Apple iPad 3 (iPad 2012) Features Released

Apple iPad 3 (iPad 2012) Features Released

The Apple iPad is one of the best-selling tablets in the world, and the iPad 3 (or iPad 2012 as what it is called according to Apple) is one of the most anticipated devices from Apple this year.

The Apple iPad 2012 will feature a new, thinner and sleeker design, down nearly 20 percent in size compared to the iPad 2. It will also support full touchscreen HD display with a screen resolution of 2048 x 1536.

iPad 2012 will also have a lighter battery reducing the weight of the tablet, longer battery life, and a wireless charging technology, which will be able to charge the battery and transfer data wirelessly.

iPad 2012 FEATURES:

A6 ProcessoriPad 3

The current Apple iPad 2 has a 900MHz dual-core ARM Cortext-A9 processor, Apple A5 chipset and PowerVr SGX543MP2 GPU. This certainly made the Apple iPad 2 a powerful tablet and a main competitor in the world of tablets. Now Apple is aiming to make the competition tougher by sporting an A6 Quad-core Processor in the iPad 3. This would make the iPad 3 as powerful as any high-end desktop.

According to Linley Group senior analyst Kevin Krewell, “We expect the A6 will be a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 design, which would be competitive with next year’s best mobile processors. In 2012, Nvidia will offer a quad-core Cortex-A9 processor, and Qualcomm will have the aforementioned MSM8960, a dual-core A15-class processor operating at 1.7GHz. Fabricating Apple’s A6 in 28nm (instead of the 40nm process Nvidia is using for its quad-core part) will reduce both die cost and power, yielding a much better product.”

iOS 5

The iPad 3 will come with the latest iOS 5, which will host the multi-touch gesture technology. However, analyst and tech enthusiasts predict that Apple would introduce OS X Lion for the tablet, since it will be powered by a quad-core processor.

This will also include multitasking features, such as notifications, task-finishing, app-switching, location and background sound.

3D Feature and New Retina DisplayiPad3

Apple enthusiast expected the Retina Display feature on Apple iPad 2; however, Apple has been working majorly for an improved version of it to include it in the iPad 3. The iPhone 4 currently supports the Retina Display with a screen resolution of 960 x 640. Apple explains Retina Display as: “Developing pixels a mere 78 micrometers wide, Apple engineers were able to pack four times the number of pixels into the same 3.5-inch (diagonal) screen found on earlier iPhone models. The resulting pixel density of iPhone 4 – 326 pixels per inch – makes text and graphics look smooth and continuous at any size.”

With the Retina Display feature, the screen resolution of the iPad3 will be 2048 x 1536 pixels. However, it is said that the third version of the tablet is delayed due to Retina Display issues, and Apple is expected to ship the tablet in early 2012.

There are speculations that the tablet will display the 3D view. Although it’s too early to expect features like 3D display, devices like the LG Optimus can record videos in 3D, and output the same through HDMI.

Cloud Computing

Apple announced its Cloud services during the WWDC 2011, and will definitely include the iCloud technology both in the iPhone 5 and iPad 3. With iCloud users can store photos, apps, calendars and access songs on iTunes without having them to store in the phone’s memory.

Camera

The iPad 3 will come with an improved camera, since the previous version of the table didn’t seem impressive enough. Unlike the iPad 2, the new tablet will come with LED flash to support the camera. It is expected to have a 5MP camera with 1080p or 720p video recording quality of 60 frames per second. The technology made by OmniVision will help reduce the size of the table by 20 percent.

Fingerprint Proof

International Women's Day Celebrated Worldwide Today

International Women's Day Celebrated Worldwide Today

The Philippines today joins the world in the observance of International Women's Day, an annual global event marked with thousands of activities to celebrate women's achievements and tackle issues affecting women.

According to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), this year's national theme, “Women Weathering Climate Change: Governance and Accountability, Everyone’s Responsibility,” underscores the role of women as agents of change in disaster risk reduction.

It is high time that we accentuate women’s involvement in disaster preparedness, risk reduction, recovery and rehabilitation,” DILG Secretary Jessie Robredo said in a press release.

Robredo asked local government units (LGUs) to organize events that will contribute to building gender-responsive and disaster-prepared communities. He also encouraged them to focus their activities on the implementation of the Magna Carta of Women, and the Millennium Development Goal number 7, which is ensuring environmental sustainability.

According to the International Women's Day website, online news network Rappler will feature in a live broadcast Senator Loren Legarda and other prominent women who have strong passion and connection with the environment.

A multi-sectoral forum on climate change, which will be attended by a number of women leaders including partylist representative Bernadette Herrera-Dy, will also be held at Saint Michael's College in Binan, Laguna.

Earlier this week, the local government of Calamba kicked-off their Women's Day celebration by giving roses to the female government employees in a surprise activity.

In Cebu, the local government said that there will be an information caravan on the Magna Carta for Women as well as a number of scheduled wellness and medical services for women today.

Aside from the thousands of global events that will mark this year's International Women's Day, netizens have also participate in the celebrations online.

In Twitter, “Happy International Women's Day” hit the worldwide trending list.

Google, meanwhile, launched a doodle to pay tribute to women. Instead of the familiar Google logo in the homepage, the popular search engine features today an image with symbols pertaining to women.

Clicking on the image – which contains the universal female symbol and a flower, among others – would bring a visitor to the Google search results for International Women's Day.

Online campaigns such as the one promoting a maternal health pledge aimed to empower mothers around the globe were also popular.

Krusada: Karen Davila Leads Campaign to Revive Philippine Theater Arts

Krusada: Karen Davila Leads Campaign to Revive Philippine Theater Arts

With the advent of television and film, theater may have lost its allure to Filipino audiences. While many theater actors and groups remain passionate and dedicated to the medium, the venues and opportunities for them to showcase their talent remain limited.

This Thursday (March 8) in "Krusada," Karen Davila will address the pressing problems behind theater's lustrous façade and uphold its importance in Philippine culture to prove that it can also cater to the Filipino masses.

Karen will visit Resort World Manila's Performing Arts Theater, the newest, largest, and most modern theater house in the country today. The stars of "The Sound of Music," veteran actors Pinky Amador, Miguel Faustman, Audie Gemora, and Janina Punzalan will also reveal their thoughts on their seemingly obsolete craft.

Also joining Karen in her crusade are organizations that train young theater actors such as the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA), Theater Actors Guild, and Teatro de Salinas of Cavite.

Listen, take part and be one with Karen's crusade because it takes more than words to make a stand. Watch "Krusada," which is nominated in the Social Issues/Current Events category at the prestigious 2012 New York Festivals International Television & Film Awards, on Thursday (March 8) after "Bandila" on ABS-CBN, or earlier on DZMM TeleRadyo (SkyCable Channel 26), 9:15 PM.
