Share a Story, Share a Light with ABS-CBN's 'Kwento Ng Pasko'

Share a Story, Share a Light with ABS-CBN's 'Kwento Ng Pasko'

This Christmas season, ABS-CBN launches another campaign that will not only give inspiration to Filipinos all over the world but will also help our Kapamilyas who have been victims of calamities the past year.

With its new station ID "Lumiliwanag Ang Mundo Sa Kwento Ng Pasko," ABS-CBN encourages every Kapamilya to share a light and share their own stories of hope, resiliency, small acts of kindness, and everyday stories of heroism. We can share these stories with the hashtag #KwentoNgPasko to spread the light of hope and watch as our Kapamilyas do an act of kindness in return.

The parol, a Pinoy Christmas icon, is this year's Christmas SID centerpiece. Film director John-D Lazatin suggested the idea of having kids orphaned during Typhoon Sendong design a parol. This, in turn, is used as an instrument of light spreading around the world. When we own the Kapamilya parol, we're not only spreading the light, we're also being part of an effort to help our disaster affected Kapamilyas, as proceeds from the parol sales would be donated to Sagip Kapamilya, the ABS-CBN Foundation arm which provides relief to affected communities of disasters, as well as engage in rehabilitation and disaster risk reduction projects.

You can buy the Kapamilya Parol HERE and help spread the light of hope to our Kapamilyas. For more information about the campaign, log on to kwentongpasko.com.

The late film critic Alexis Tioseco wanted this film made. Now we’ll know why.

Fernando Poe Jr.: The Fight Continues

Fernando Poe Jr.: The Fight Continues

The man who was “FPJ” is gone, but his legacy lives on.

Fernando Poe Jr. is "Da King" of Philippine cinema. His life story, as well was the stories that he tells in his movies, inspire, not only because they tell of seemingly insurmountable obstacles, which are conquered by pure and honest intentions and unwavering hopefulness in the goodness of the Filipino hero.

At an early age, FPJ’s father passed away, which forced him to drop out of high school, and carry the responsibilities of the head of the family.  He started in the movies as a stuntman, and worked his way up to being the “bida,” and would eventually earn the title of being the undisputed  “King of Philippine Cinema” or “Da King.”

Throughout his struggles, he never forgot his humble beginnings.  He never forgot how it is to be poor and the poor always preoccupied his mind and ruled his heart.  He was naturally generous-hearted. He did not only give, he lived a life of giving.  He helped everyone, even those he barely knew.  Whenever he can help it, he would shy away from the camera.  This sincerity in giving a part of himself has endeared him to many, if not to all Filipinos.  He is not just a hero in the movies, he proved to be a bigger hero in real life.

He did not only give when it was convenient, he gave even when it hurt.  Even when he was living a comfortable life, the clamor of the people for him to lead was so resounding.  Driven by a higher purpose to bring his service to the highest office in the land, he embarked on the greatest journey of his life, armed only with his people’s hopes and dreams.

Unfortunately, “Da King” never saw the fulfillment of his dream of a new morning for the Filipino people.  But not everything is lost because Da King left the seeds of his legacy.

This inspiration is what burns in the heart of his daughter Grace Poe.  This is what prompted her to run for the Senate in 2013.  Grace Poe wishes to continue the legacy of her father, who once dreamed of making a real difference in the lives of the Filipino people.

Grace Poe, FPJ’s daughter, believes that the new morning will not come unless we take up, where FPJ left off.  The fight continues.  "Hindi pa tapos ang laban. Ang bagong umaga ay darating kung sama-sama nating paghahandaan at pagsisikapan."

TV5 Leads Against GMA-7 in Regional TV Ratings

TV5 Leads Against GMA-7 in Regional TV Ratings

TV5 President and CEO Atty. Ray C. Espinosa

TV5’s regional build out is paying off as it overtakes GMA Network in all-day viewership ratings in six key cities in the country, namely: Cebu, Iloilo, Davao, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, and Bacolod; according to the Nielsen Metro City TV Audience Measurement (or MCTAM) Total individuals data from October 1-31.

TV5 president and CEO Atty. Ray C. Espinosa said that the network’s rise is due to the outstanding work of the network’s officers and personnel, especially at TV5’s provincial stations. “Beyond the resources we have committed to expand the network, the management takes pride in our people who never get tired and work long hours to reach our goals,” he said.

The Nielsen figures showed that in Metro Cebu - the biggest metro city in the Visayas which accounts for 1.5 million viewers - TV5 enjoyed at 23% audience share while GMA had 18 percent.

In Metro Bacolod, where more than 500,000 viewers reside, TV% maintains a solid lead with 25% audience share versus GMA’s 18 percent.

TV5 also showed impressive growth in Metro Iloilo as it posted 18% audience share, while GMA falls behind to third place with 17%. The Kapatid Network’s surge (a 17-point gain from 1% audience share in June to the current 18%) started in August this year, just weeks after the completion of its network expansion in the area.

For Mindanao’s premier broadcast market Metro Davao, where some 800,000 viewers reside, TV5 recorded a five-point increase from 15% in January to 20% in October while GMA suffered a decline in viewership from 25% to 18% within the same period.

In Metro Cagayan de Oro (which has close to 600,000 viewers), the Kapatid Network is currently ahead of GMA with a 12-point lead this October. In just 10 months, TV5 has virtually reversed rankings with GMA. With an audience share of 17% in January, it gained tremendous viewer momentum in CDO and increased its audience shares to 27% this October - largely gaining from GMA, whose viewership has evidently declined from 33% to 15% within the same period.

In Metro General Santos City, TV5’s ascendancy is more apparent as it surpasses GMA with a 13-point lead in the area. The Kapatid Network holds 34% audience share in October - sharing the No. 1 position with ABS-CBN while GMA gets 21%.

In the Northern region of Luzon, a former Kapuso bailiwick, TV5’s all-day viewership increased in Metro Dagupan (with 329,000 viewers) by six percentage points (21% audience share) when compared to its June performance of 15% share. Meanwhile, GMA suffered a decline of seven percentage points (from 35% to 28%) in the same period.

Both TV5 and GMA subscribe to Nielsen Media Research, the industry’s pioneer in Philippine TV audience measurement.

The expansion of TV5’s regional network is less than three years old. Several other transmitters and stations including those in Naga City, Roxas City and Batangas will be launched in the coming months.

'Martin Nievera 3D: Tatlong Dekada," Album of Celebration of Achievements of the Past and the Promise of the Future

'Martin Nievera 3D: Tatlong Dekada," Album of Celebration of Achievements of the Past and the Promise of the Future

Thirty years after the song “Be My Lady” have been one of the most  favourite  love songs of OPM and as the rise of the Concert King Martin Nievera, PolyEast Records celebrates a legendary career  with the release of the album Martin Nievera 3D: Tatlong Dekada.

The new album represents Martin’s every aspect of his career – from recording to touring to endorsements to best-selling albums.  “Here’s a CD of 15 newly written songs just to add more magic to OPM. I’m just so proud of this album because it’s going to celebrate my 30 years in the business without having to look back. Let’s just say, today is first day of the rest of my career,” Nievera said.

As the album celebrates Nievera’s achievements of the past and the promise of the future, Martin Nievera 3D: Tatlong Dekada is now available in stores released by PolyEast Records which comes with a CD plus DVD-- collecting music videos of Nievera’s monumental anthems that played a pivotal role in his musical history.

Being Nievera’s home label since his album Chasing Time in 2002,  PolyEast Records has put together an outstanding collection featuring Nievera’s classic signature sound with 15 original songs and three classic remakes.

The first single taken from the highly anticipated new album is entitled Ipadarama written by the award-winning composer Kiko Salazar and currently being played on local radios.

To celebrate 30 years of music and the release of this new album, Nievera's collaborative approach to writing and recording his new music is evidenced throughout the album with the help of some of the most notable songwriters and producers of OPM which includes Marvin Querido, Joey Benin, Jungee Marcelo, Ogie Alcasid, Arnie Mendaros and Kiko Salazar.

Nievera also recorded three remakes which run the gamut of his varied stylistic approach and what Nievera has been known for, for the past years. “Remakes became my new therapy… to bring back new life to old songs” Nievera said.  Remakes include the song “Pangako”, originally by Ogie Alcasid,  was used in the teleserye “Walang Hanggan”; Paul Anka’s “Times of Your Life” with Nievera’s version from the hit teleserye Lorenzo’s Time; and a timeless collaboration with Vina Morales in  teleserye’s A Beautiful Affair’s song “After All” which was originally popularized by Peter Cetera in the 80s.

As testament to the genre that Nievera spawned thirty years ago, he has indelibly etched in Philippine music history and popular culture being OPM’s Concert King. Nievera’s first-ever album was Martin…Take One in 1982, sparked an incredible run of success that made him chart over 26 albums since then and became one of the highest selling OPM artists until now. “In my 30 years in the music business, I think I’ve had more failures, misses than hits. I think I am a success because of my failures.”

Nievera recently finished his stint being a judge/mentor on the recently concluded reality talent show XFactor on ABS-CBN and he shared “I think the next step is putting more emphasis on OPM by coming out with songs written by Filipinos, sung by Filipinos…I think I’ve to try develop ‘dreamers’ and I’ve learned a lot being a judge/mentor on XFactor… I want to teach these new singers to have a dream

For hundreds of thousands of fans who have sung and celebrated with OPM’s concert king, Nievera has been a constant factor in their lives. Now here’s how he would like to thank all the fans who have been supporting him over the past 30 years. Martin Nievera 3D: Tatlong Dekada is now available in stores nationwide released by PolyEast Records. Special thanks to Discovery Suites.
