TV5 Spreads Christmas Cheer with ‘Sama-Samang Tinig ng Pasko’ Barangay Chorale Showdown

True to its tradition as the first broadcast station to herald the Yuletide Season in the country, TV5 levels up its Christmas campaign this November with the Metro-wide "Sama-Samang Tinig ng Pasko" chorale competition to be held in a series of barangay showdowns in Manila, Valenzuela, Quezon City, and Marikina.

TV5 has stood by its thrust of being the catalyst for people to come together and the launch of this Barangay Chorale Showdown has brought out the idea of “Iba ang Saya, Pag Sama Sama” beyond a catchy phrase on paper. Now that the holidays are fast approaching, TV5 culminates this merry season by offering these communities a chance to spread the love and joy with their friends, family, and loved ones through this traditional competition that signifies how this Christmas is better celebrated together.

The public is invited to what promises to be a trade fair-like event featuring some of Metro Manila’s finest chorale groups in competition for the Grand Prize of P300,000. The contest finale will be held at Ayala Malls Feliz on December 17, 2022 with some of TV5’s stars and talents in attendance. The winning chorale group will also be performing live at one of the scheduled games of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Ten groups will be competing at each site – beginning on November 19 in a barangay in Manila, November 20 in Valenzuela City, November 26 in Quezon City, and November 27 in Marikina City. Two winners will be selected in each of the barangay legs of the chorale competition. Judges will come from the local government officials (LGU) and celebrity guests. A guest judge will also be performing to delight the home crowd and honor all chorale participants.

The five-leg competition will culminate at the Grand Finals at Ayala Malls Feliz on December 17 with a finale sing-out among the top eight winners from the four barangay contests held earlier. The top 3 winning groups will receive P300,000 plus PBA singing appearance for the 1st Prize; P150,000 for the 2nd Prize; and P100,000 for 3rd Prize. All the other finalists get P10,000 each.

Finally! DonBelle Holds First Meet and Greet with Fans in the Philippines

Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano have finally met together with few and lucky endearing fans in the country at the #CloserWithDonBelle Meet & Greet event organized by oral care brand closeup last October 26 at the Tablo Kitchen X Café in Quezon City.

In June, closeup launched the loveteam as the brand’s freshest ambassadors in a Facebook watch party for the premiere of the music video of Closer, Belle’s latest music video as a recording artist. Donny and Belle had their first meet and greet with fans in New York City last August 2022, during their Beyond the Stars US concert tour with other Star Magic talents but this is their first meet and greet with fans in the Philippines.

During the event, everyone couldn’t help but feel butterflies as the on-screen couple spiritedly participated in games where they, together with fans, guessed missing lyrics from Belle’s song Closer, figure out which one of them posted random and playful tweets, and lastly identified surprise items in a mystery box.

Fans were treated to a group interaction with Donny and Belle for the first time following their record-breaking series He’s Into Her which launched the two artists into the limelight.

Asked how they feel about being closeup’s freshest ambassadors, both stars answered with enthusiasm. “Of course, we’re very much grateful especially because we got to do it together. From the first shoot of the music video, it was already so fun to do, remember?” says Donny before turning to Belle. “When I first heard the song, na-LSS na ako agad plus I get to sing it! So yes, we’re very thankful to closeup.”

The exclusive event welcomed 10 lucky winners from a closeup promo launched last July which encouraged fans to purchase closeup products from Unilever’s Lazada online store. One fan even shared that she came all the way from Tuguegarao just to see her favorite loveteam.

Closeup Philippines Brand Manager Abby Pel also shared how grateful they are for having both DonBelle and their fans’ support when they initially launched the two as the new brand ambassadors. The love team also teased what’s coming for them as Donny announces the trailer premiere of their new movie. “I hope everyone is excited as the trailer is about to be released on October 28,” Donny shares. “We haven’t actually watched anything or any scenes yet so it will be a first for all of us to witness this.”

Finally, Donny expresses further appreciation for their fans’ support and emphasizes why seeing them in real life is incomparable to anything. “Your support is very much appreciated and seeing you guys in real life - there’s nothing like it. Amid massive demand, popularity, and influence of Pinoy Pop or P-Pop right now in the landscape of the Philippine music scene, the home of the finest Original Pilipino Music (OPM), Universal Records Philippines along with SHOW Co., Ltd. have agreed to form a strategic partnership to further strengthen its hype and exposure here in the country.

It also aims to normalize giving the best possible talent and entertainment in today’s mainstream local and even international scenes, followers and supporters of P-Pop while contributing in promoting the one-of-kind Filipino culture and artistry as well.

And right now, it tries to remain at the forefront of innovative promotion of these kinds of music, as well as bridging the gap between different cultures.

UR’s Kathleen Dy-Go believes that there are a lot of talented individuals here in the Philippines who can be “idol material” and it is high time for these people to be exposed to high quality and intensive training, while acquiring the commendable discipline that Korean agencies instill in their trainees.

“It’s such a great honor for the label to acquire a partnership of this caliber. We promise that we’ll work very hard for the potential groups that we will be launching along with SHOW Korea and SBTown Philippines and of course, we have a lot of surprises in store for all of the P-Pop fans out there,” she says.

For the beloved Tatang Robin, it’s finally the right time for SHOW Korea, SBTown Philippines and UR to make this partnership happen so he approached the label first this time around. Both easily agreed to have an immediate meeting since both parties are interested and share the same vision.

“I want to express my gratitude to Universal Records because it did not take long for the label to agree to this amazing partnership. It was quick,” he shares.

As a great CEO himself, Tatang Robin has an exemplary experience in creating a really great boy group, evident in his dedication in training and debuting SB19, who's perhaps the most popular P-Pop group right now. So now it’s a new challenge for him to create an ultimate P-Pop girl group that will be idolized by many P-Pop and K-pop supporters. Although he’s nervous, he’s optimistic that SHOW Korea and SBTown Philippines can pull it off, of course, with the aid of UR.

He explains, “I believe that it’s the girls’ era this time around here in the Philippine market. As you all know, the most famous groups in South Korea right now are girl groups. It’s just very common here in this world that there’s really an order for everything. So, I think this time is already the right time for the girl groups to be at the top. I hope that this girl group that we’re going to debut is the first to be nominated internationally, like in Billboard.”

“If only fans give their love and support just like they did before in SB19, I believe that it’s also possible. Most of the talents we have, they have been training for up to four years. The shortest is one year and seven months. And as you all know I don’t debut talents who are not yet ready,” he adds.

Embark on an emotional rollercoaster ride as former child star-turned-comedian Buboy Villar stars in “Ang Kwento ni Makoy,” a film directed by Direk HJCP and produced by Masaya Studio Inc. 

Opening in cinemas nationwide on December 7, 2022, “Ang Kwento ni Makoy” highlights the story of an optimistic and compassionate nurse who is eager to lend a helping hand despite the struggles brought by the surge of the coronavirus.

Shot during the surge of the pandemic, the film comes from the point of view of a writer diagnosed with COVID-19, Ched Herrera (portrayed by Bella Thompson), who meets the outgoing Makoy (Buboy Villar), her father’s requested private nurse. Ched and Makoy eventually become friends, but they have different perspectives in life. Ched believes that “one needs to put oneself first more than anyone,” which greatly contrasts with Makoy who has lived his whole life in service of others. With their clashing opinions, Makoy is determined to change Ched’s perspective before she leaves the hospital. Will he be able to change her mind or would it all be in vain?

“The pandemic had a huge impact on our lives. During the lockdown, everyone was looking for that beacon of hope to continue moving forward. The main character, Makoy, embodies that and, through him, we are reassured that no matter what trials we live through, everything will eventually fall into place,” director HJCP shared.

The secret to making the Laudicos’ crispy pork menudo or any fried food extra crispy and crunchy is to fry it twice. Also, fry in small batches so your food is cooked evenly.

Tip 4: Use high-quality, pre-cut meats

It all starts with the ingredients - even the best chef will have a hard time making good food if their ingredients aren’t quality. That’s why Chefs Lau and Jac recommend using high-quality meats like Robina Farms Pork Menudo Cut. Even better, the meat is pre-cut so you’re also able to shorten your prep time!

Tip 5: Garnish with fresh herbs

MAYA Accelerates "Digi-Palengke" Program in Mindanao

Maya, the country's only all-in-one money app, is transforming Davao City's biggest Bankerohan Public Market with the launch of the Paleng-QR PH initiative in Mindanao today.

Spearheading the "digi-palengke" program is Davao City Government with the support of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). Also supporting the launch are PLDT and Smart Communications.

BSP Governor Felipe Medalla and Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte led the ceremonies held today at the city's Bankerohan Public Market.

"By promoting the interoperable QR PH national standard codes, Paleng-QR PH creates a simple but more powerful digital finance experience at the local community level. At Maya, we fully support Davao City's vision to build a stronger digital ecosystem," said Orlando Vea, Maya CEO and Founder and Maya Bank Co-Founder.

“Basta QR PH, pwede kami sa Maya,” Vea added.

The Paleng-QR Ph program aims to digitalize transactions starting with public markets and local transportation. The program enables vendors and tricycle drivers to accept digital payments from customers regardless of their e-wallet or bank accounts via QR Ph, the national standard for QR payment. Maya's QR codes are QR Ph-compliant, and its app can scan any QR Ph-powered transaction.

Creating digi-palengkes is part of Maya’s own LGUs Embracing and Accelerating Digitalization (L.E.A.D). Through this program, Maya equips local governments like Davao City with business-in-a-box payment acceptance solutions and disbursement tools to enable faster public service delivery.

Maya is the first digital financial services platform to adopt QR Ph. More than 52 million users can enjoy a seamless experience using Maya's consumer platforms that can send and accept P2P payments from other QR Ph-participating financial institutions.

Meanwhile, non-Maya users can pay at over 800,000 QR Ph-enabled Maya merchants, which are present in 96% of the total cities and municipalities.

The BSP's OR Ph initiative is part of the overall financial services transformation roadmap of the Philippines. It aims to raise Filipinos' trust in digital financial services, as consumers and enterprises will get used to sending and receiving cashless payments for everyday transactions.

Maya's full support to QR PH is in line with the BSP's thrust to increase the share of Filipino adults with a financial account from 56% in 2021 to 70% in 2023 and grow the volume of digital payments from 20% in 2021 to 50% by next year.

"Digital payment is the entry point of Filipinos to the financial system. As they build their financial footprint, consumers and MSMEs can access more progressive digital banking services offered by Maya," said Vea.

Maya has made it easier for consumers to spend, save, get credit, and invest in crypto just by using its top-rated all-in-one money app. Its merchant partners, meanwhile, can open a business deposit account and access revolving credit lines leveraging their payment transactions.

Cannibal Love Story “Bones And All” Receives R-16 Rating, Now Showing with No Cuts in PH Cinemas

After playing to sold-out capacity crowds during the QCinema Film Festival, the controversial film "Bones and All" -- a story of tender love and cannibalism -- will finally open nationwide November 23 with a favorable R-16 rating from the Movie & Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

The MTRCB explained in its decision that "the film contains graphic but non-gratuitous depiction of violence and gore, themes of cannibalism, that may not be suitable for children below sixteen (16) years of age."

In the US, "Bones and All" also received an R rating from the Motion Pictures Association of America (MPAA) "for strong, bloody and disturbing violent content, language throughout, some sexual content and brief graphic nudity."

The New York Times has described the film as "Gory, ridiculous and curiously touching," while the Los Angeles Times found it "unsettling and heartbreaking in equal measure."

"Bones and All" is "difficult to watch, but looking away is harder still," says The New Yorker, as Bloody Disgusting raved that "It's as elegant as carnal and carnivorous, and it'll take a bite out of your heart if you let it."

From Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures comes "Bones and All," a movie about love, directed by Luca Guadagnino ("Call Me by Your Name"), who recently won the Silver Lion for Best Director at the 2022 Venice Film Festival for the film.

"Bones and All" is a story of first love between Maren (Taylor Russell), a young woman learning how to survive on the margins of society, and Lee (Timothée Chalamet), an intense and disenfranchised drifter… as they meet and join together for a thousand-mile odyssey which takes them through the back roads, hidden passages and trap doors of Ronald Reagan's America. But despite their best efforts, all roads lead back to their terrifying pasts and to a final stand that will determine whether their love can survive their otherness.
