GMA Kapuso Foundation Turns Over 7 Classrooms in Iligan City

GMA Kapuso Foundation Turns Over 7 Classrooms in Iligan City

GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF), a recognized leader in public service in the country, turned over seven newly constructed classrooms at the Mandulog Elementary School in Barangay Mandulog, Iligan City in line with its long-term rehabilitation program for the victims of typhoon Sendong.

Last June 15, GMAKF Executive Vice President and COO Mel C. Tiangco led the inauguration of the classrooms, which was attended by Iligan City Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz, District Congressman Vicente Varf Berlmonte, Assistant Superintendent Roy Angelo G. Gazon, Mandulog Elementary School principal Zenaida P. Simon and Mandulog Brgy. Captain Dianalan Pagsidan. Also present were Iligan City Vice Mayor Henry C. Dy and Department of Education (DepEd) District Supervisor Ompah R. Pagsidan.

Prior to the turnover ceremony, GMAKF distributed schools supplies and hosted an environmental symposium, as well as a tree planting activity in the school.

Going beyond the basic requirements of a standard DepEd classroom, the classrooms have the advanced features of a Kapuso School Development (KSD) classroom, which includes additional tools and facilities that are meant to create a more conducive learning environment for the students.

GMAKF takes pride in these classrooms as they are built using Light Steel Frame Technology to ensure optimum functionality and durability.

The Foundation is set to build three more classrooms in Mandulog Elementary School, which is located in the same site as the Kapuso Village where GMAKF is currently constructing around 200 houses for families displaced by Sendong.

The former Mandulog Elementary School is situated along the river bank of Kapay River, which overflowed during the onslaught of Sendong. Its classrooms and administrative buildings were wiped out by the typhoon leaving only the principal’s office, which was nonetheless damaged and unusable.

The Foundation learned about the plight of the school during its relief operations in Brgy. Mandulog but was informed by the local DepEd that they already have funds for its rehabilitation. GMAKF then focused on building the nearby Kapuso Village housing project.

As GMAKF strives to build a community consisting of complete services and facilities, it negotiated with the DepEd Main Office to allow the construction of a school within the Kapuso Village. Following a series of dialogues, DepEd finally allowed GMAKF to construct 10 classrooms at Mandulog Elementary School.

Construction began mid-April and was in full swing by May made possible by GMAKF construction team composed of skilled workers, army volunteers, and Kapuso Village beneficiaries. Guided by the Bayanihan spirit, everyone contributed their time and effort to ensure that classrooms will be ready for the school opening this June.

In addition to the classrooms, GMAKF also turned over two water supply facilities with service sheds to the Sendong victims in Sitio Cabaro, Barangay Hinaplanon, a predominantly Muslim community and the second hardest-hit barangay in Iligan.

Present during the turnover ceremony were GMAKF EVP and COO Ms. Mel C. Tiangco, Iligan City Mayor Lawrence Cruz, Cabaro Brgy. Captain Norodin Cabaro, AVP for GMA Regional TV Oliver Amoroso, and Head of Infrastructure Committee Alfredo Pacana.

Piolo Pascual, Maricar Reyes, Cristine Reyes and Jericho Rosales Bid Primetime Goodbye this Friday

Piolo Pascual, Maricar Reyes, Cristine Reyes and Jericho Rosales Bid Primetime Goodbye this Friday

ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida drama series “Dahil sa Pag-ibig” topbilled by Piolo Pascual, Jericho Rosales, Cristine Reyes, Maricar Reyes, and Christopher de Leon has kept the TV viewers glued on their seats with its revelations-filled finale week.

Based on the latest data of Kantar Media last Monday (June 25), “Dahil sa Pag-ibig” remained to be the viewers ‘real love’ with its national TV rating of 28.9% compared to its rival program in GMA, “One True Love” which only got 10.4%, registering an 18.5 point difference in favor of the Kapamilya series.

Aside from the avid viewers of “Dahil sa Pag-ibig,” its four lead stars admittedly fell in love with the show’s very intriguing and unique plot. Its leading men Piolo and Jericho even admitted that they, too, have become attached with their own characters, Fr. Alfred Valderama and Oliver Falcon, respectively.

I feel honored that I was given the chance to play this very challenging role. I hope that I’ve given justice to the character of Fr. Alfred,” Piolo said.

According to Echo, “I really loved working on my character Oliver and I’m very thankful to everyone who followed his story.”

Meanwhile, “Dahil sa Pag-ibig” leading ladies Cristine and Maricar revealed that their respective characters, Jasmin and Agnes, have really grown close to their hearts.

I really love my character Agnes,” Maricar said. “I really admire the fact that even though she’s strong and independent, she’s ready to give her all when it comes to love.”

For Cristine, her role as Jasmin gave her the chance to push her acting skills to its limits. “I find her character exciting because she’s not the usual girl who is in love. In the beginning, she fell for his stepbrother who is a priest, and then she eventually got engaged with a guy who just used her to get even with his mortal enemy,” she shared.

As “Dahil sa Pag-ibig” goes down to its last face-off, watch out for the heart pounding revelations that will shock Fr. Alfred, Jasmin, Oliver, Agnes, and Leo Valderama (Christopher) as the secrets of the past come back to haunt them. After all of the adversities that transpired because of one mistake, will they finally sacrifice their own desires for the sake of love?

Don’t miss the last face-off of “Dahil sa Pag-ibig,” after “Walang Hanggan” in ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida.

However, all these will change when she meets and gets to know her younger sister, Angelica (Crystal) who is mentally challenged. But eventually she learns to care and love her sister.

From all the trials and challenges Elisa went through - from the time her mother left her, being mistreated by people around her, being an employer in the new family of her own mother, up to the time when her sister is forcibly taken away from her - Elisa needs to be strong and tough not just for herself but most especially for her sister, Angelica.

Elisa will do anything to protect, defend and fight for her sister but one secret will change everything. Can Elisa continue to fight for her sister despite knowing she really has no rights in keeping Angelica? How long can she fight and stand up against the person who wants to take everything away from her sister?

Piolo Pascual's Nephew Benjamin Alves is GMA-7 Newest Contract Star

Piolo Pascual's Nephew Benjamin Alves is GMA-7 Newest Contract Star

Benjamin Alves, the latest addition to GMA Network’s roster of stars, was presented to some members of the entertainment press today after he was officially welcomed to the Kapuso network on Sunday, June 24, in the afternoon musical variety program Party Pilipinas.

During the interview, Benjamin talked about his on-going movie project “Guni Guni,” a production of Regal Films slated to hit theatres this August. He stars in the film alongside the beautiful and talented Kapuso actress Lovi Poe.

Asked about how it was working with Lovi, Benjamin was all-praises for the actress.

"Lovi is such a nice person. I'm so lucky to have such a big [project] and to have Lovi as my leading lady. She keeps me at ease. The biggest adjustment for me was that I can't relax as normally as I can. Seeing Lovi being relaxed, being down to earth and being someone that I can talk to, nakakagaan talaga ng loob," he said.

Benjamin, however, admitted that he felt very nervous when he was told that he was going to do a kissing scene with Lovi in the film.

"(Laughs) We had a 'moment' there (laughs). Yeah, we had a kissing scene (laughs). It was a little awkward kasi it was a first for me but after the first take, we're fine. The good thing about Lovi is that she does not make it any weirder than it has to be; game din siya. For your co-actor to be like that, you have to make sure that you take the job seriously as well," Benjamin said.

So how did it go?

"Interesting (laughs). Interesting because of the set-up. Kasi everyone's watching us e (laughs). But I don't kiss and tell, so.. (laughs)," he said.
Benjamin grew up in Guam where he graduated summa cum laude in college. He took up AB English and is planning to pursue graduate studies. Despite his American upbringing, Benjamin is lucky to be able to speak Tagalog fluently without the “twang,” which usually hinders most aspiring Filipinos who grew up abroad from making it big in the local entertainment industry.

Although being compared with his uncle Piolo Pascual seems inevitable, Benjamin hopes that he would have the opportunity to establish his career in the showbiz industry on his own.

"It’s unfair to expect someone to achieve in a day what he [Piolo] had achieved in years. But I do hope that in due time, I’d be as successful as he is,” he said.

Samsung Galaxy S3 High Market Demand Suprises Samsung

Samsung Galaxy S3 High Market Demand Suprises Samsung

Samsung Electronics' struggle to keep pace with rampant demand for its new Galaxy S III smartphone may have cost the South Korean firm some 2 million units of sales in just a month.

For a company that has never stirred the sort of consumer frenzy that accompanies each new Apple Inc gadget, overwhelming demand is a nice problem to have. But some of the shortage stemmed from a manufacturing glitch that affected some European sales, while major carriers in the United States have had to delay delivery of some pre-ordered phones.

The Galaxy S III has received the most positive reviews among any of the Samsung smartphones, and the technology giant says the phone is on track to become its fastest selling smartphone, with sales likely to top 10 million in the first two months since its launch.

The latest Galaxy's launch has been well timed as the next iPhone is not expected until later this year, and offerings from others such as Google's Motorola and Nokia have not created much of a market stir.

"Samsung might have been caught off guard by the demand, not because they did not believe in their own products, but because they might have over-estimated the competition," said Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi. "In other words, aside from the iPhone and HTC's oneX there's not much out there at the moment, which would have certainly helped Samsung."

Analysts reckon the Galaxy shortage will be a temporary hiccup, affecting some 2 million units of shipments in the April-June quarter. Samsung expects another record quarter of earnings from its handset business in the current period, helped by solid sales of its predecessor S II and phone-cum-tablet Galaxy Note.

Barclays lowered its forecast for Samsung's second-quarter Galaxy S III shipments to 6.5 million from 8 million, but raised its third-quarter shipment forecast by 1 million to 15 million.

Samsung said component shortages have been resolved and it is running at full tilt to meet demand. "It is simply that demand far exceeded our expectation. But that doesn't mean we had set a very conservative demand forecast," Samsung said in an emailed statement to Reuters.

Google Tablet Nexus 7 Price and Specs

Google Tablet Nexus 7 Price and Specs

The new Google Table Nexus 7 including its prices and specs leaked - days before its official announcement on Google‘s I/O Conference in San Francisco, California.

Tech site Gizmodo Australia reported on Monday, June 25, 2012, that Google Nexus 7 will be a 7-inch tablet to be built by Asus and will run Android‘s new OS, dubbed as Jelly Bean; and will be offered on 8GB and 16GB versions.

As noted in the report, the new Google tablet will likely feature a 1.3 GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor, a GeForce 12-core GPU and a 1GB of RAM; along with an IPS (in-plane switching) display which will offer a 178-degree viewing angle with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.

In addition, the new Google tablet have a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera but none at the back, and will also feature NFC and will run Google Wallet and Android Beam, a program that allows users to share contacts, directions, Web pages, apps, among others.

The site also noted that Google Nexus 7 will cost $199 for the 8GB version model and $249 for the 16GB version; and will be sold in Australia this July; but did not mention the possible release date for other countries.

Apparently, an update on the report emphasized that the said document does not mention the version number of the new Android OS, but noted that it could be Android 4.1 instead of leaping ahead a generation and stamping it as 5.0, which complies to earlier rumors that Android 4.1 (Android Jelly Bean) was accidentally revealed at Google Play online store.

PBB Teen Edition 4 Big 4 - Who are they?

PBB Teen Edition 4 Big 4 - Who are they?

Before viewers get to vote for their favorite housemate for the Teen Big Winner title, one of the seven remaining housemates of “Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition 4” will be given the chance to grab an automatic slot at the Big Night via “Big Jump to the Big Night.”

Former Big Winner Melai Cantiveros, who was the first PBB housemate to benefit from the process, will enter the PBB house to personally reveal who among Alec, Joj and Jai, Karen, Myrtle, Ryan, and Roy are the contenders for the sure slot based on the choice of the edition’s ex-housemates.

Evictees Vince, Nikka, Claire, Clodet, Kit, Mariz, Tom and Yves recently entered the PBB house to help Kuya in gauging the remaining housemates’ genuineness by throwing out controversial questions at them.

Viewers will be given sufficient time to evaluate their bets as the seven housemates are up for eviction this week to prepare for the “BFF at the Big Night,” which will be held at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center in Malolos, Bulacan on July 7.

To determine the voting public’s judgment more accurately, Big Brother has brought back the “Power of One” system that allows a single SIM card to send only one vote per day to save a housemate. The housemate who will get the lowest percentage of votes will be evicted from the PBB house this Friday (June 29).

Watch the last two weeks of “PBB Teen Edition 4” with Toni Gonzaga after “Dahil sa Pag-ibig” in Primetime Bida and “PBB Teen Edition 4 Uber 2012” hosted by Bianca, Robi, and John after “Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo” in Kapamilya Gold and “SabadUber” after “Showbiz Inside Report” on Saturdays on ABS-CBN.

Philippine Delegation to the 2012 London Olympic Games Aims to Bring Home PHL's First Gold Medal

Philippine Delegation to the 2012 London Olympic Games Aims to Bring Home PHL's First Gold Medal

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), with the help of Procter and Gamble (P&G) Philippines, kicks off the journey of the country’s contingent to the London 2012 Olympic Games with warm wishes and inspirational messages at the Grand Send-off ceremony held at The Blue Leaf on the 25th of June, 2012.

With the valuable support of Olympic partners ICTSI, Bank of the Philippine Islands, Mizuno and Samsonite, as well as backing from Petron, Smart Sports, PRC, SportsCore and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), the event contributed greatly to the motivation and excitement of the athletes who were grateful for the encouragement.
Gracing the event were top sports officials from the POC and PSC, NSA presidents, past Olympians, coaches, athletes’ family members and sponsors of the Philippine delegation, brought together by their desire to support the country’s finest athletes as they compete in the world’s most prestigious athletic competition.

The most important thing is for our athletes to do their best and show the heart and determination that is present in every Filipino. Our focus is to show the world that we have the makings of champions and that we are unyielding and steadfast in achieving our goals.” said Mr. Jose “Peping” Cojuangco, President of the Philippine Olympic Committee.
Among the Olympians present were boxer Mark Anthony Barriga, runner Rene Herrera, long-jumper Marestella Torres, swimmers Jessie Khing Lacuna and Jasmine Alkhaldi, shooter Paul Brian Rosario and weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz.

The other members of the 2012 Philippine Olympic Team who were not present because they are training outside the country are cyclist Daniel Manabat Caluag (currently in the US) and Judo athlete Tomohiko Aldaba Hoshina (currently in Japan).

Their moms were, the greatest cheerleaders of the Olympians as they pursued their dreams of Olympic gold. Yet the day’s event went beyond honoring the Olympic delegates as it also recognized the loving mothers behind these athletes’ success.

P&G’s mission is touching and improving all people’s lives – and what better way to do this during the Olympic year than to honor mothers, who were the very first to see the heroes and champions in our athletes and in all of us, whose love and support helped us to believe in ourselves and our dreams,” explained Mr. Chad Sotelo, P&G Country Marketing Manager.
With this goal in mind, P&G launched its “Thank you Mom” campaign, which seeks to inspire everyone to pay tribute to their own moms and acknowledge the many sacrifices they’ve made to help us become who we are today.

To our athletes, we wish you the best of luck in the 2012 London Games. In our eyes, you are already winners and we are sure that you will make the country proud,” Sotelo said.

And to their moms and all Filipino moms, thank you for the love and sacrifice you’ve shown daily that helped create these world-class athletes, and that helped raise everyday heroes. P&G continues to be one with you in your effort to provide the best for your children and your families.”

‘The Road’ Still on iTunes Horror Movies Chart

‘The Road’ Still on iTunes Horror Movies Chart

Today is the 45th day since the 2011 GMA Films horror-thriller “The Road” hit both U.S. film markets and the online multimedia marketplace iTunes Store, and for 45 consecutive days, the film has been listed as one of the most downloaded horror films in the said online platform.

Today, June 25, The Road is once again a part of the list, which according to the iTunes website is “based on actual Horror Movies downloads by iTunes users and updated hourly using data provided by Apple iTunes.”

Among the blockbuster Hollywood movies which are also on the same list are The Devil Inside, The Darkest Hour, Underworld, I Am Legend, Paranormal Activity and Alien vs. Predator.

The Road has also received favorable reviews from the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times:

A powerfully atmospheric blend of ghostly encounters, horrific situations and missing-persons mysteries from the Philippine director Yam Laranas,” wrote Jeannette Catsoulis in the New York Times

The film’s three-pronged narrative does a fair job of laying a spooky groundwork for the revelatory emotional sadism that lies behind most acts of evil; it just takes a bit of clunky exposition to get there,” wrote Robert Abele in the Los Angeles Times.

The Road was written and directed by internationally-acclaimed Filipino director Yam Laranas and produced by GMA Films.

It was originally released in the Philippines in November 2011.

Early this year, GMA Films reached an agreement with U.S.-based international film distribution company Freestyle Releasing. The deal made possible the North American release of the said film beginning in May.

The movie had its red carpet premiere in Los Angeles, California on May 9, two days before the film’s premiere screening in 50 mainstream theatres across the United States.

"X-Rated" MMK Episode Finally Airs this Saturday

"X-Rated" MMK Episode Finally Airs this Saturday

Finally, ABS-CBN was given the go-signal by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to air the controversial “Maalaala Mo Kaya” episode that deals with the story of a teenage girl who was repeatedly raped, once even at the sight of her own mother. The episode will air this Saturday, June 30.

From the previously obtained X-rating, the ‘Cursed Beauty’ episode was granted by the MTRCB with a rating of ‘SPG’ or ‘strong parental guidance.’ The ‘SPG’ rating was given to the show after being thoroughly reviewed by the agency since its June 2 airing was postponed.

Former “Goin’ Bulilit” child star Jane Oineza portrays the 15-year-old girl named Nene who was recurrently raped by her stepfather. But her world drastically changed when her mother even assisted her live-in partner in the act of rape. Since then, Nene cursed the ‘beauty’ that she possesses. How can someone who lost her self-respect regain her love for herself?

Together with Jane in the “MMK” episode are Angel Aquino, Carlos Morales, RS Francisco, Vangie Labalan, Ana Abad Santos, Archie Alemania, Gerald Madrid, Jacko Benin, Kyline Alcantara, Liz Alindogan, Jesette Prospero, Minco Fabregas, and Elaine Quemuel. It was researched by Mae Rose Balanay, written by Benson Logronio, and directed by Nuel Naval.

Witness the touching tale of Nene in another remarkable TV masterpiece this Saturday in the longest running drama anthology of Asia, “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (MMK), after “Wansapanataym” on ABS-CBN.

Krizza Neri Launches First Self-titled Album

Krizza Neri Launches First Self-titled Album

The protégé and the mentor finally released the highly-anticipated self-titled album, Krizza. “Krizza” features most requested songs from Protégé and OPM originals composed by the music icons of today. The carrier single, “Ba’t Di Ko Ba Nasabi” is the original soundtrack from GMA-7’s The Good Daughter. The album has 10 tracks with 2 OPM remakes showing the soulful, edgy and R&B distinct voice of Krizza Neri at her best.

Grand Winner Mentor, Actress and Singer-Songwriter Aiza Seguerra produced the album under her own labelBlackbird Music and contributed two original tracks, “Kung Malalaman Mo” and “Look My Way”. “I am extremely happy also that some of the songs from Protégé most requested by viewers are included in the album”,says Aiza.

The mentor shares a song of longing with guitar-accompaniment with “Look My Way” with lyrics from Joel Trinidad creating a beautiful romantic pop-soulful tune. Singer-Composer Nyoy Volante (“No More You and Me”) andLaarni Matta Macaraeg (“Dahil Sa ‘Yo”) completes the romance and inspiration with songs that move and uplift any mood of any day. Jude Thaddeus Gitamondoc contributed preppy youthful songs “French Fries and Coke”and “Don’t Be Too Much” that suits the 16-year old protégé Krizza Neri many of the teens anticipate to relate and sing-along with.

The sweet and soulful Cagayan de Oro native will be celebrating her birthday on June 28 and find its fitting that her 1st showbiz birthday celebration is the release of her debut album. Still in disbelief, Krizza finds herself humbled and extremely excited to have been given an original composition of Mentor Music Maestro Ryan Cayabyab (“Kung Malalaman Mo”) who shared the Protégé winning experience. A song that most people would like to express,“Kung Malalaman Mo” is a song of hidden and unconditional love with varying tempo and melody to lift your spirits.

Memorable songs from Protégé are also included; “Narda”(originally sung by Kamikaze band) and the powerful medley of standard pop birit we’ve seen Krizza Neri sung, “If I Could/Wind Beneath My Wings” and “Could Have Been”. Finally, the Mentor, Singer-Songwriter, Music Icon Ogie Alcasid shares his original song, “Bakit Ka Lumayo” completing the powerful melody of love in the album.
