"The Conjuring: Last Rites" Breaks Box Office Records in the Philippines, Sets New Record for Biggest Opening Day for a Horror Movie of All Time!

Horror fans all over the Philippines braved the witching hour on September 3 to catch the very first showing of “The Conjuring: Last Rites,” setting a new record for highest-grossing midnight screening for any movie in the country – a fitting tribute to Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who are back on the big screen for one last time as real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

Rated R-16, “Last Rites” has also broken the record for biggest opening for an R-16 movie, previously held by “Final Destination Bloodlines.” This latest installment in the Conjuring franchise now also holds the record for biggest opening day for a horror film of all time in the Philippines, and currently has the second highest-grossing opening day for any movie this year.

“The Conjuring: Last Rites” is the ninth entry in the more than $2 billion theatrical Conjuring universe and is the farewell installment in the fan-favorite horror movie series. Directed by franchise veteran Michael Chaves and produced by franchise architects James Wan and Peter Safran, “Last Rites” delivers another thrilling chapter of the iconic Conjuring cinematic universe, based on real events. Farmiga and Wilson reunite for one last case as Ed and Lorraine Warren in a powerful and spine-chilling addition to the global box office juggernaut.

Filmmakers Wan, Safran and Chaves are all in agreement that Farmiga and Wilson are a big reason that fans keep coming back to the Conjuring universe. “Vera and Patrick have always been the center of these movies,” says Wan, who directed “The Conjuring” 1 and 2, and has been a producer since the second film in the universe. “They have such a great relationship, onscreen and off – they’re such good friends. I think that really comes across and the audience sees how authentic it is… I have always said, ‘They come for the fright and the scares, but they really stick around for Vera and Patrick.’”

Adds producer Safran, “I think the success of the universe has really hinged on the Warrens as a family. That’s why people keep coming back to see the next adventure, the next investigation, the next stage in their lives – it’s because they’ve fallen in love with Ed and Lorraine as portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga.”

Director Chaves says it best: “Vera and Patrick have always been our secret weapon. They’re the heart and soul of these films, and it’s their talent and who they are as people that have shaped these movies from the start.”

Wilson, who has been portraying Ed Warren since the first “Conjuring” in 2013, can’t help feeling nostalgic. “Going back to the first film, I remember thinking, ‘What a gift to be able to do this.’”

Farmiga, who, like Wilson, is a much beloved figure in the horror genre, is looking back as well. “It’s been really fun to grow up through the decades and explore all these sensational cases,” she shares, but adds: “This story is the last act for these two.”

Don’t miss your chance to say farewell to Ed and Lorraine Warren, and to the franchise that has been haunting moviegoers over the years. Watch “The Conjuring: Last Rites,” now showing in cinemas.

Shanti Dope Delivers “Rehab,” His Most Personal And Courageous Work Yet

Filipino hip-hop sensation Shanti Dope delivers his most personal and courageous work yet with his new single "Rehab,” a track that chronicles his battle with addiction, the road to recovery, and the power of love as a driving force for change.

The song is an unfiltered confession, a mirror of Shanti Dope’s own battles with substance abuse, peer pressure, and his experience on the dark side of fame. What began as experimentation with an illegal substance led to a troubled path, forcing him to confront his demons and seek rehabilitation for the sake of those he loves most - his partner, his son, and his family. In a heartfelt verse, Shanti raps: Sabik na kong gawin yung halikan ka pagkagaling ng rehab. Hindi sapat sa akin na ika’y yakapin lang. Yung tamang panahon ay darating din basta kapit lang.

"Rehab" boldly challenges the shame often associated with recovering from substance abuse–Shanti presents rehabilitation as an act of strength—proof that fighting for a better life requires strength and courage. The song is for anyone who struggles with addiction and their inner demons. His reminder that you are not alone, that asking for help is not a weakness, and that change is possible. If you keep holding on, the right moment will come. As Shanti said in the song, Yung tamang panahon ay darating basta kapit lang.

Known for his lyrical depth and unflinching honesty, Shanti Dope uses his music to reflect real-life struggles. With "Rehab," he strips away any pretense, offering listeners a raw and an unfiltered look at his lowest moments, and his journey back to light.

Gabby and The Gabby Cats Gets Their Big Screen Debut in “Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie”

Gabby takes audiences on a cinematic journey for the first time ever in Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie, based on the global hit streaming series. Laila Lockhart Kraner is reprising her role as the beloved Gabby, taking off on a road trip to Cat Francisco with her Grandma Gigi, played by four-time Grammy Award winner Gloria Estefan. Trouble ensues when Gabby’s dollhouse, her most precious possession, gets stolen by the eccentric cat lady Vera (Kristen Wiig). Adventure awaits as she travels to the real world to get the Gabby Cats together and save Gabby’s dollhouse.

Watch the trailer: https://youtu.be/4bgD2Zd4qWc

With a massive fanbase of kids and parents alike, tuned to 11 successful seasons, DreamWorks Animation President Maggie Cohn felt like the jump into the big screen was the perfect next step for the franchise. “Gabby’s Dollhouse is filled with endless creativity and imagination, playing out in a deeply imagined world,” Cohn says. “Combine this with a director with a vision and a passionate fanbase wanting more from the franchise, and we had a great start for our movie.”

Passionate is the apt term for director Ryan Crego, who is already immersed in Gabby’s world from the start. “Living in a house of Gabby fans—I have three small kids who are obsessed—it was super important to me to retain the charm, character and copious amounts of glitter that have made Gabby’s such a success,” Crego says. “All while striving to give the audience (and parents) a heightened, interactive experience, unlike anything that we have seen in the modern-day movie going era. We pushed for a much bigger journey, full of surprises and a heartfelt character arc that would only be possible given the length and structure of a feature-length film. It is a big responsibility to take one of the most successful original shows in the kids’ space of the last decade and make a movie out of it. There is so much that is great about Gabby’s Dollhouse, you just do not want to break it. Make no mistake, this is not a tv special; this is Gabby and the Gabby Cats on their biggest big screen adventure yet!

Crego feels it’s important to always have a sense of childlike wonder in everyone, not just children, and he wants Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie to help maintain it. “As adults, we often lose touch with that sense of play,” Crego says. “This movie is about rediscovering it and holding on to it. It is a message not just for kids, but for their parents and grandparents too.”

He also aims for this to be a memorable first for any young moviegoers seeing a film in theaters for the first time. “We wanted this to be a child’s first cinematic adventure,” Crego says. “One that has joy and music and silliness, yes, but also a sense of emotional weight and momentum.”

Not only is Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie the first cinematic venture for the franchise, it’s DreamWorks Animation’s first creative venture into a multi-media film. . “This is DreamWorks Animation’s first hybrid feature,” Cohn says. “But it is more than that. It is an imaginative, interactive, in-theater experience, and I cannot wait to see kids and their families singing, dancing and ‘pinch pinching’ along.” Crego adds: “I hope kids leave the theater inspired to create and sing and play, and that they are left with the reminder that creativity is not something you outgrow. It evolves and deepens and, if we are lucky, it never leaves us.”

A fun family journey awaits as Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie arrives in Philippine cinemas on September 24. Follow Universal Pictures PH (FB), UniversalPicturesPH (IG), and UniversalPicsPH (TikTok) for the latest updates.
