"Justice isn’t just a courtroom term - it’s a calling. As believers, we are commanded to be the voice of the voiceless, the shield of the powerless, and the hands of Christ in a hurting world. Whether in law, leadership, or daily life, advocacy rooted in compassion reflects the heart of our Savior." - Lawyers for Christ
For many, the law is simply a tool to defend individual interests through legal representation. But for Atty. Ronald Tolledo, the founder and President of 'Lawyers for Christ (LFC)', the law must be more than that - it also should be rooted in compassion and Christian values.
"Yung 'Lawyers for Christ' is composed of lawyers and Christian leaders who are one in dreaming for a better Philippines. It seeks to influence, not just the general public, but yung mga policy makers and mga thought leaders na when craft laws and policies, they should be anchored in Christian principles, biblical principles," Atty. Tolledo said in an intimate media interview.
Championing the Oppressed and Underserved
The organization accepts cases from individuals whose rights are being violated, with a clear focus on supporting the oppressed and underprivileged.
"When it comes to representation, we accept representation from people specifically mga clients whose individual rights are oppressed and yung kanilang mga karapatan ay naba-violate.
"Mainly the passion is to, say, change in the Philippines. Yung mga pagod na sa problema sa Pilipinas, yung corruption. We think the voice is needed para magkaroon na ng pagbabago sa Pilipinas," Atty. Tolledo emphasized.
Advocacy Rooted in Christian Principles
LFC aims not only to serve, but also to influence legislation and social systems by working directly with various organizations and government bodies.
"Right now we are building the framework of the organization, the core values, principles if you want to see change in the society, in the Philippines. LFC is in talks with several with severals groups 'coz the goal is makarating sa Congress, sa Senate para mapag-usapan 'yung mga ideas na we think will help the society," he said.
Investing in the Future of Christian Legal Leaders
Beyond legal aid, LFC is investing in the future of Christian legal professionals by offering scholarships to aspiring lawyers who align with their mission and values.
"Right now there are six (6) of us in the organization and we are growing our movement. We have scholars na nasa undergraduate degrees na if they want to become lawyers, we are also helping them."
Free Legal Aid with a Heart for Reconciliation
A significant part of LFC’s mission is offering free legal consultations - and when possible, encouraging mediation and reconciliation over litigation.
"We offer our services to basically anyone. Anyone can have legal consultation with LFC. Like what I said, we also champion yung mga individual rights. Kung feeling mo na na-violate ng government o ng kung sino man ang individual right mo, and you want representation but you can't afford it, LFC is one of your options. We provided the legal consultation for free. And if, kailangan umabot sa litigation, because we also advocate for compromise settlement, mediation arbitration, because LFC is also in the ministry of reconciliation. If the dispute is reconcilable, meaning mediateble, pwede namang pagbatiin, bakit mo pa pagkakakitaan yung mga kliyente. Pagbatiin mo sila. Na-restore mo na yung relationship nila, hinde pa sila gumastos."
