James McAvoy is Terrifying in the Latest Blumhouse Thriller "Speak No Evil"


A British family welcomes an American family to their idyllic farmhouse for the weekend, but the dream vacation soon turns into a nightmare in Speak No Evil

Playing the role of the charismatic, alpha-male host and head of the family Paddy is BAFTA award-winner James McAvoy(known for his role as the young Charles Xavier in the X-Men universe), who was immediately intrigued when director James Watkins pitched him the role.

Blumhouse has done so many kinds of movies, but they’re mostly known for the horror genre, and they’re exceptionally good at it,” says McAvoy. “But reading the script, what kept me going after page three was the fact that these characters felt like real people and that it was based on things that we can recognize in the real world.”


Director James Watkins thought only of James McAvoy when looking for who to play the complex role of Paddy. “Paddy must charm us even while being on the edge of horrifying us, and James knows how to walk that line,” Watkins says. “I watched him in the film Filth and was mesmerized: his character is horrible, but James somehow takes us with him. A lesser actor would have lost us. As well as a movie star, James is a brilliant stage actor. Exploring Paddy, he not only mines his own experience but taps into a deep well of classical resources: Iago, Richard III, Mephistopheles. I don’t think anyone else in the world could have played Paddy as well as James. His understanding of psychological and emotional space—of mapping tiny shifts on an emotional gradient—is second to none. He was the first and only actor I approached.

The character’s layers and deep-rooted darkness cloaked over by masculinity and charisma was a fascination for McAvoy. . “Paddy holds to an older, traditionalist expression of manhood,” says McAvoy. “James Watkins and I really leaned into that aspect of him as we fleshed out who Paddy is and what he means to the story and to the culture, giving him some mythic heft with timely resonance. Here’s this man’s man, beholden to some ancient idea of masculinity, living in the countryside, living off the land, or so you think. It all seems so wholesome and earthy. And yet this is ancient England that we’re talking about, and there’s darkness in the land; there’s a history of violence and bloodshed and horrible things in that dirt, and so there’s evil in that earthy masculinity that he’s romanticizing and selling.

Paddy’s strong personality made him a fun character for McAvoy to embody, but he was also aware of the importance of nuance in playing a man with a powerful personality. “Paddy is incredibly entertaining and he’s always performing,” McAvoy says. “But you have to be careful playing a character like that, because then it can become a showy turn, and while that could be very effective for an audience, it doesn’t necessarily have a lot of truth to it. We were always working to ground the character in real history, motivation and desire, and to earn the revelations of his true nature. As much as Paddy is this likably mercurial, counter-cultural figure, there’s real darkness in him, and it’s always there for the audience to see.

A tense, hair-raising thriller awaits as Speak No Evil arrives in Philippine cinemas on September 11, from Universal Pictures International.

Vivoree Launches a Five-Track EP Called "Movie Made For Me" About Her Personal Struggles and Dreams


Actress-singer Vivoree returns to the music scene with a new extended play (EP) “movie made for me,” a collection of songs dealing with love, heartbreak, and dreams.

The carrier track “movie made for me” bares Vivoree’s personal struggles in the industry and her will to strive for her personal goals in life. It was composed by Dana Balagtas and produced by Ashley Aunor.

Other songs from the EP produced under Star Music are her previous singles “Matapang,” “Dalawang Isip,” “Sayaw Ng Mga Tala,” and a new song called “IDLYLT.”


Prior to her mini album, Vivoree wrote her first single “Kaya Pa” which she released in 2016. She also teamed up with former Hashtag member Charles Kieron for their digital album “CK & Vivoree” in 2019 and collaborated with Jon Guelas for the “He’s Into Her” soundtrack “Did I Let You Go.”

Vivoree became one of the most prominent housemates from “Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky 7” in 2016. She delved into acting through starring in various series such as “He’s Into Her,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “The Iron Heart,” and “Tara G!” She also made her theater debut in the “Tabing Ilog Musical” as Eds which will have its re-run starting November to December.

Unforgettable. Limitless.: Acer Day 2024 Concert Brings P-Pop and K-Pop Superstars on One Stage


Acer Day is a celebration and an affirmation of the values that Acer holds close to its heart. It's also a way for the brand to show customers its latest products, designed to enhance the user experiences and unlock the untapped potential to do more.

This year's Acer Day theme is "AI'm Limitless," which aims to inspire people to push beyond their limits and explore new user experiences with Acer's vast range of PCs and lifestyle products.

On August 4, all roads led to the MOA Arena for the Acer Day 2024 concert, featuring Acer ambassadors SB19, Sandara Park, and G22 with performances from Cup of Joe, TJ Monterde, Ebe Dancel, and Rico Blanco. The show was hosted by Luis Manzano. The concert had an audience of over 20,000 people, both on-ground and online via a Facebook livestream!

"Acer Day helps connect us with our customers through music and different activities that allow them to try the products which provide tools that enable individuals to explore limitless possibilities and bring their ideas to life," said Sue Ong Lim, Managing Director of Acer Philippines.


Pop/alternative band Cup of Joe opened the show with "Wag na Lang," followed by its hit songs " Tingin" and "Estranghero."

Next up was singer-songwriter TJ Monterde, who wowed the crowd with "Mahika," "Tulad Mo," and "Palagi."


Multi-awarded singer-songwriter and OPM icon Ebe Dancel wowed the crowd with his hits “Hari ng Sablay,” “Makita Kang Muli,” “Wag Kang Umiyak,” and “Bawat Daan.” Dancel recalled that during the pandemic when there were no gigs for artists like himself, it was Acer who first reached out to him to sing for some of the company's executives and employees at a very small venue.

Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and OPM rockstar Rico Blanco kept the energy going with "Antukin, "Umaaraw Umuulan," "Your Universe," "Kisapmata," and "You'll be Safe Here."


International superstar and Filipino favorite Sandara Park and G22 took to the stage for a never-before-seen stage of "In or Out." Finally, it was Dara and SB19 for "Reset," a song they collaborated on for Acer in 2023.


G22, known as the "Female Alphas of P-pop," performed their songs "Boomerang," "Bang," "One Sided Love," and "Loka."

Sandara, whose group 2NE1 is reuniting, kept the positive vibes and upbeat mood going "Dara Dara," "I Don't Care," and "I'm the Best+Can't Nobody." SB19 proved why they are called the "Kings of P-pop" with "Gento, "Hanggang sa Huli," and Crimzone. SB19 also performed an unreleased song titled "Kalakal" with rapper Gloc 9.


Finally, it was time for SB19 and G22 to perform "Limitless," the theme song of Acer Day 2024. SB19 leader Pablo composed the song. The two groups proved that they, like Acer, are limitless in what they can do.
