TV Patrol 25th Anniversary Special Airs on ABS-CBN this Sunday

The anchors and reporters of “TV Patrol” took a timeout from news reporting to entertain and show off their creative chops to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the country’s leading newscast last Friday, July 27, at the Manila Hotel.

As if to show that journalists know how to have fun, “TV Patrol” anchor Noli ‘Kabayan’ de Castro serenaded the crowd and Korina Sanchez crooned the Filipino classic “Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko” in “25 Taong Patrol ng Pilipino: The TV Patrol Silver Anniversary Special” to be aired on Sunday, August 5, 11 p.m. on ABS-CBN.

Also turning the heat up the dance floor were “TV Patrol Weekend” anchor Pinky Webb and Star patrollers Gretchen Fullido, Phoemela Baranda, Ginger Conejero, and Marie Lozano, who turned in an alluring salsa performance.

The audience also erupted with laughter from the comic duets of Tony Velasquez and Kitkat, Marc Logan and Cacai Bautista, Doris Bigornia and Leo Martinez, and Henry Omaga-Diaz who was noticeably nervous in his song number with comedienne Ethel Booba.

Besides the stellar performances, the celebration also honored the pioneers and past newscasters of “TV Patrol” such as the late Angelo Castro Jr., Rolly V. Cruz, Frankie Evangelista and Ernie Baron whose awards were received by their respective families.

The star-studded event, which was attended by the biggest newsmakers in the country, also revisited the biggest news reports delivered by TV Patrol’s bold reporters as well as the stories that inspired and brought hope to the nation.

‘TV Patrol’ reflects the condition of our country, what needs to be changed, and what needs to be stopped. We will work with Filipinos in their fight to make their lives better, to uphold democracy, and to celebrate victories,” said ABS-CBN chairman and CEO Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III.

Kapamilya stars also shone in the event with performances from Dulce, Vina Morales, Basil Valdez, Bituin Escalante, Jed Madela, Gloc-9, Freddie Aguilar and the Watawat Band, Pepe Smith, Erik Santos, Angeline Quinto, Jovit Baldivino, and Marcelito Pomoy.

Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton vs Abigail Ramos of Mexico Boxing Fight this Sunday on GMA-7

Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton vs Abigail Ramos of Mexico Boxing Fight this Sunday on GMA-7

Coming off her impressive victory against Yolanda Segura of Mexico last May, Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton, the first Filipino-American boxer to win the Women's WBO Super Bantamweight and IBA Super Bantamweight titles, returns to Yucatan, Mexico for her fight against Abigail “Pinguita” Ramos.

GMA Network brings the third instalment of The Hurricane’s Laban ng Lahi series titled “Bagyo sa Mexico 3 – Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton v Abigail “Pinguita” Ramos” this Sunday, August 5, 11 AM to 12 NN before Party Pilipinas.

This is the third time that the two-time world boxing champion sets foot in the Mexican territory, who gave her the nickname “Yucatan Princess” as she already has a strong following among Mexican boxing fans.

Julaton was initially scheduled to fight another Mexican boxer, Magali Rodriguez but the latter suddenly lost touch with Orion Sports.

She simply disappeared on us,” said Orion Sports President Allan Tremblay. “She left us hanging a week and half before the fight. Fortunately, we were able to secure Abigail Ramos who was in training for another fight and jumped at the chance to fight Ana. These things happen in boxing and you just have to deal with them.

The fight marks Ramos’ entry in the professional boxing arena after setting a record of 3 wins, 3 losses and 2 knockouts as an amateur compared to Julaton’s 10 wins including 1 knockout, 3 losses, and 1 draw.

Tremblay, however, said that Julaton should not take her opponent lightly despite her young career.

The 32-year old pride of the Philippines is set to bring her years of experience to this battle, being one of the fastest fighters in history to become a world champion after only seven professional fights.

This is still a major fight for me,” she said. “Ramos has nothing to lose and will bring it all, and I have to be prepared accordingly. A loss would derail my long standing dream of fighting in the Philippines in front of my own people and I simply cannot let that happen. Making adjustments for a last minute change of opponent is a challenge in itself but I will be ready.”

The fight will also air live via Super Radyo DZBB 594khz at 11:45 AM on Saturday, August 4 anchored by Orly Trinidad at Manny Vargas.

GMA-7 Celebrates 5th Year of Listing in the Stock Exchange

GMA-7 Celebrates 5th Year of Listing in the Stock Exchange

GMA Network, Inc. celebrates its 5th year as a listed company today, with its Chairman and CEO, Atty Felipe L. Gozon, ringing the Opening Bell.

Joining Gozon at today’s ceremonial ringing of the Opening Bell are GMA’s President and Chief Operating Officer, Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Felipe S. Yalong, and independent members of the Board of Directors, former Chief Justice Artemio Panganiban and Dr Jaime Laya.

According to Gozon, “We are very thankful that we have the support of both the viewing public, as evidenced by our steady win in the ratings, and the investors, seeing as we have reached our fifth year as a listed company with the current price of our share higher than the IPO price.”

In July 2007, GMA issued 91.346 million common shares, along with a special purpose vehicle, the GMA Holdings Inc, with 822.115 million PDRs. Gozon recalls, “When we went public in 2007, our first day of trading coincided with a downward trend at the global market. But we have proved resilient, surviving the many ups and downs of the market.”

In fact, the Kapuso Network has been giving cash dividends to stockholders every year, even before it joined the stock exchange – a feat that not all listed companies can claim. In May this year, the company released cash dividends amounting to P1.944 billion at P0.40 per share, equivalent to 114 percent of its full 2011 net income.

Gozon explains, “We work very hard to stay on top of our game, both for our audience and our investors. We owe it to the investing public to give them back their investment, plus a little bit more.”

Investor confidence in the company has not waned, seeing as it has been registering a steady performance in the market. GMA’s trading symbol is GMA7 for the Common shares and GMAP for the PDRs.

The Philippine Stock Exchange commemorates the 5th, 10th, 20th, 25th and 50th years of listing of various companies as a way to generate more awareness about the importance of the stock market.

'Makapiling Kang Muli' Enjoys Camping Trip with Some Kids

'Makapiling Kang Muli' Enjoys Camping Trip with Some Kids

Makapiling kang Muli star Richard Gutierrez had a fun time at the shoot of GMA’s new Station ID, which will feature him in a camping scene with fellow Kapuso actors Mark Anthony Fernandez, TJ Trinidad and Mike Tan along with some kids.

I really enjoyed doing the scene with Mark Anthony, TJ and Mike, and of course spending time with the kids,” he shared. “We gathered around a bonfire and just talked about anything that came to our minds until we eventually ran out of stories to tell.”

Their part in the much-awaited Station ID portrays a really touching moment between the GMA actors and the children listening intently to the stories of their kuyas.

We were asked to just keep talking while the cameras were rolling. So we took turns telling jokes and even shared personal ghost stories. It was really fun and I’m very excited to see how it will turn out,” said Richard.

He seems to have his hands full these days. When he’s not busy exploring the undiscovered side of the country or searching for hidden treasures in his weekly GMA News and Public Affairs show Pinoy Adventures, the actor-environmentalist plays the dashing Martin Caballero in the GMA Telebabad show, Makapiling Kang Muli with Carla Abellana and rumoured sweetheart Sarah Lahbati. However, the two remain quiet about the real status of their relationship to this day.

What does a busy actor like him do during his free time? “Of course, I spend it with my family and friends. I also engage in mixed martial arts and play basketball, among other physical activities to keep me fit.

I love how I am able to do two completely different things in my current shows in GMA. With Pinoy Adventures, I get to travel around our country and discover great things about it in a way like I never experienced before. And then with my other show, Makapiling Kang Muli, I get to portray a really challenging character and continue to grow as an actor. So it’s like sharing two different sides of me to our Kapuso viewers.

The new GMA Station ID with Richard and 200 other Kapuso stars will premiere this August.

The Rise of Teenage Pregnancies to be Tackled in 'Patrol ng Pilipino'

The Rise of Teenage Pregnancies to be Tackled in 'Patrol ng Pilipino'

The number of teenage pregnancies in the country has reached alarming proportions according to a United Nations (UN) study, which revealed the Philippines now ranks first among Southeast Asian nations in terms of high adolescent pregnancy rates.

Tomorrow, July 31, in “Patrol ng Pilipino,” ABS-CBN news reporter Jing Castaneda will dig deeper into the alarming statistics by interviewing a group of teenage pregnant girls to find out what factors influenced, or even encouraged them to engage in premarital sex.

The UN Population Fund Agency also found out that teenage pregnancy cases in the country surged by 70% in only a decade with a pregnancy rate of 53 in every 1,000 women aged 15 to 19.

Are today’s parents busier than ever that they can no longer guide their children into making smart decisions in relationships and sex? How can the government, communities, and families teach the youth to be more responsible and in turn, help young mothers?

Meanwhile, Dominic Almelor will look into the alleged discrepancies in the screening process of beneficiaries in the government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, which provides cash grants and incentives for the poorest families in the country.

The Commission on Audit has found out that many of the program’s beneficiaries are not extremely poor, casting uncertainties on the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s procedures in selecting families. How will DSWD address this issue?

Know the stories behind the news in “Patrol ng Pilipino” tomorrow, July 31, after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN or watch it earlier on DZMM TeleRadyo (SkyCable Channel 26), 9:15 p.m.
