K Brosas and Freddie Webb Headline TV5’s "Ang Himala Ni Niño"

This September 30, the highly anticipated prequel to the hit TV5 show “Niña and Niño,” titled “Ang Himala Ni Niño,” will premiere on TV5. 

After captivating audiences with the story of beloved siblings Niña and Niño, this new series will take viewers back to Niño’s past, as he recalls his first encounters with miracles in the quaint rural town of Bukang Liwayway. Maki Releases New Song Titled "Namumula," A Song that Speaks to Those Drawn to Red Flags

Maki is back with a new single called “Namumula,” a song that speaks to those drawn to red flags in love.

The track, which dropped last Friday (Aug. 30), has already accumulated over one million streams on digital streaming platforms four days after its release.

Maki simultaneously dropped the music video for the song, which is now in fifth spot on ‘Trending for music’ on YouTube with more than half a million views. It stars “It’s Showtime Online U” host Jannah Chua as Maki’s love interest.

Another color bop following Maki’s hit single “Dilaw,” “Namumula” reflects the struggles of those trapped in their feelings and torn between doing the logical thing and chasing after one’s happiness despite the warnings.

Upon its release, the song topped Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist, which also featured the Tarsier Records artist on the cover. The song was also featured on OPM Rising and on Radar PH playlist where Maki served as the cover as well.

Meanwhile, the Kapamilya singer-songwriter is set to hold his sold-out first solo concert dubbed “Maki-Concert” at the New Frontier Theater on Nov. 29 and 30.

And then just knowing my anchors in my life and making sure that I know who I am because, at the end of the day, I’m the one who knows myself best,” said Kendra.

When asked if she wants to follow in the footsteps of her mom and uncle Patrick Garcia’s showbiz career, the student-athlete said, “Maybe. If there’s like a nice project, I will talk to my parents about it. I’m not saying no because you never know, right?”

URC Thailand’s New Uniforms are Made from Recycled Plastic Bottles

Universal Robina Corporation’s (URC) Thailand office has stepped up its sustainability efforts with “URGreen Upcycling Uniform Campaign.” 

The regional subsidiary’s campaign promotes the recycling of PET plastic bottles into uniforms, highlighting the importance of reducing carbon emissions and combating global warming.

The URGreen Upcycling Uniform Campaign aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 1.714kg per shirt. Each uniform shirt is made from 14 recycled 600ml PET water bottles, which were collected from January to April 2024. URC Thailand collected a total of 21,000 plastic bottles to be turned into polo shirts.

By June, a total of 1,500 shirts were produced and distributed to employees. The reduced CO2 emissions for all shirts amounted to 2,571kg CO2e, which is equivalent to planting 215 trees.

URC Thailand employees also actively participated in the design process, and in the end, the design of Vichida Pengnum URC Thailand’s (Senior Employee Relations Supervisor) was chosen for the company polo. To celebrate diversity and creativity, a fashion show was held for the employees to proudly showcase the new uniforms.

Looking ahead, URC Thailand is keen to continue this initiative to further contribute to the reduction of plastic wastes and carbon emissions. It aims to produce an additional 4,800 shirts in the future, which require 67,000 recycled plastic bottles.

Sustainable fashion is resonant to URC, both in its local and international arms. Last year, URC Flour had its own upcycling initiative where it partnered with local brands AraPilak and Aecovas Apparel to produce eco-friendly clothing using recycled cotton sacks.

In the Philippines, URC produces iconic brands such as Great Taste, C2 Cool & Clean, Piattos, Maxx candy and Cream-O cookies, which have been part of Filipinos’ lives for decades. James McAvoy is Terrifying in the Latest Blumhouse Thriller "Speak No Evil"

A British family welcomes an American family to their idyllic farmhouse for the weekend, but the dream vacation soon turns into a nightmare in Speak No Evil. 

Playing the role of the charismatic, alpha-male host and head of the family Paddy is BAFTA award-winner James McAvoy(known for his role as the young Charles Xavier in the X-Men universe), who was immediately intrigued when director James Watkins pitched him the role.

“Blumhouse has done so many kinds of movies, but they’re mostly known for the horror genre, and they’re exceptionally good at it,” says McAvoy. “But reading the script, what kept me going after page three was the fact that these characters felt like real people and that it was based on things that we can recognize in the real world.”

Director James Watkins thought only of James McAvoy when looking for who to play the complex role of Paddy. “Paddy must charm us even while being on the edge of horrifying us, and James knows how to walk that line,” Watkins says. “I watched him in the film Filth and was mesmerized: his character is horrible, but James somehow takes us with him. A lesser actor would have lost us. As well as a movie star, James is a brilliant stage actor. Exploring Paddy, he not only mines his own experience but taps into a deep well of classical resources: Iago, Richard III, Mephistopheles. I don’t think anyone else in the world could have played Paddy as well as James. His understanding of psychological and emotional space—of mapping tiny shifts on an emotional gradient—is second to none. He was the first and only actor I approached.”

The character’s layers and deep-rooted darkness cloaked over by masculinity and charisma was a fascination for McAvoy. . “Paddy holds to an older, traditionalist expression of manhood,” says McAvoy. “James Watkins and I really leaned into that aspect of him as we fleshed out who Paddy is and what he means to the story and to the culture, giving him some mythic heft with timely resonance. Here’s this man’s man, beholden to some ancient idea of masculinity, living in the countryside, living off the land, or so you think. It all seems so wholesome and earthy. And yet this is ancient England that we’re talking about, and there’s darkness in the land; there’s a history of violence and bloodshed and horrible things in that dirt, and so there’s evil in that earthy masculinity that he’s romanticizing and selling.”

Paddy’s strong personality made him a fun character for McAvoy to embody, but he was also aware of the importance of nuance in playing a man with a powerful personality. “Paddy is incredibly entertaining and he’s always performing,” McAvoy says. “But you have to be careful playing a character like that, because then it can become a showy turn, and while that could be very effective for an audience, it doesn’t necessarily have a lot of truth to it. We were always working to ground the character in real history, motivation and desire, and to earn the revelations of his true nature. As much as Paddy is this likably mercurial, counter-cultural figure, there’s real darkness in him, and it’s always there for the audience to see.”

A tense, hair-raising thriller awaits as Speak No Evil arrives in Philippine cinemas on September 11, from Universal Pictures International.
