BTS is TIME Magazine Entertainer of the Year 2020

World famous Korean pop band BTS composed of members RM, Jin, V, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook, was chosen Entertainer of the Year by TIME as announced on Thursday, December 10.

According to an article released by the magazine, "BTS isn't just the biggest K-pop act on the charts. They've become the biggest band in the world full stop.

"Today, K-pop is a multibillion-dollar business, but for decades the gatekeepers of the music world – the Western radio moguls, media outlets, and number-crunchers – treated it as a novelty. BTS hits the expected high notes of traditional K-pop: sharp outfits, crisp choreography, and dazzling videos. But they've matched that superstar shine with a surprising level of honesty about the hard work that goes into it.

"BTS meets the demands of Top 40's authenticity era without sacrificing any of the gloss that's made K-pop a cultural force. It doesn't hurt that their songs are irresistible: polished confections that are dense with hooks and sit comfortably on any mainstream playlist.

"In October, they staged "perhaps the biggest virtual ticketed show of all time" during a two-night event. Big Hit, which manages BTS, went public in South Korea this year, "turning Bang into a billionaire and each of the members into millionaires, a rarity in an industry where the spoils often go to the distributors, not the creators,

Big Hit is also among the most subscribed music accounts on YouTube, with BTS music videos breaking records set previously by other BTS music videos.

AXN Launches 3 New Original Productions for Q4 2020, Releases Teaser of 2021 Shows Line-up

AXN, known regionally as the home of the best Original Productions in Asia, has not let challenging times slow down its momentum. While most of the industry has been forced into a standstill, the leading English General Entertainment channel* launched three (3) new Original Productions in 2020 and has teased several more coming up in the pipeline for 2021.

This not only speaks of the channel’s commitment to continue bringing relevant and engaging programs to audiences in Asia, but also serves as a clear testament to the creative and production power of KC Global Media Asia, the network that owns AXN along with Asian content leaders Animax, ONE, and GEM.

According to Avani Bhanchawat, Vice President and Head of Revenue in Sales at KC Global Media Asia, “We are cognizant of the impact of the pandemic on our everyday lives. More than ever in these challenging times, AXN is one with our audiences, and with our partners, in keeping fortitude and spirits up by delivering fresh, top-quality programs that engage and inspire.”

With a track record built over the years of producing and broadcasting groundbreaking Original Productions made for Asia, AXN has earned the trust of industry partners across the region, and it comes as no surprise that the three (3) new shows that launched in 2020 are all products of collaboration.

AXN All-Stars is a virtual extravaganza made possible by collaboration between AXN and some of the biggest names that the channel has had to offer. Featuring stars from all over the world, from David Foster, Anggun, Michael Bolton, and Mel C to Cosentino and Cyril Takayama to Junior New System, Gerphil Flores, and Afgan, among many more, AXN All-Stars is an unprecedented visual and aural cornucopia curated to lift everyone’s spirits in what has to be the greatest celebration of hope yet in these challenging times. AXN All-Stars had its digital premiere on November 28 on AXN Asia’s Facebook page and YouTube channels, with linear telecast on December 1 and 2 on AXN. AXN All-Stars is sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism in Indonesia and Creative Economy Indonesia.

Project GO, meanwhile, is a brand-new business reality series sponsored by GoDaddy Asia that puts Php 1 million at stake for aspiring entrepreneurs to make their business idea real. Set to span a total of five (5) episodes, it premiered on November 19 and is currently airing every Thursday on AXN and on AXN Asia’s YouTube channel. The show called for aspiring Filipino entrepreneurs to pitch their business ideas in an online Open Auditions back in August and was shot on location in Metro Manila in September in the midst of lockdown. With the limitations on mass gatherings imposed by the government, KC Global Media Asia had to be creative in bringing the cast together, innovating with hybrid filming that saw local Mentors Maggie Wilson, Bea Cupin, and the Tung Brothers on set working in real time with GoDaddy’s Tina Shieh from Taiwan as well as with the shortlisted contestants calling in from all over the Philippines.

Lastly, Asian Dream, which aired seven (7) episodes on AXN starting August, was produced by Subaru Asia. Shot prior to the pandemic, Asian Dream featured six (6) contestants from across the Southeast Asia region coming together to refine their craft under the mentorship of multiple Grammy-award winner Michael Bolton, as they compete to become the next rising star in Asia. The show was co-hosted by the Philippines’ very own Morissette Amon and was won by Tyen Rasif of Singapore, who has since become Subaru Asia’s newest ambassador and will be joining Bolton in his upcoming Asian Dream tour.

This lineup of Original Productions leaves no question as to the dedication and ability of AXN, and of KC Global Media Asia as a whole, to create, curate, and deliver quality content, and more importantly, to do so while adapting to the changing times.

In fact, KC Global Media Asia teases a full pipeline of new series in development for launch in 2021, not only on AXN but across the other leading channels owned by the network, and in a wider variety of formats than what has previously been done. At least two (2) are expected to hit the small screen, and even non-linear platforms, in the first quarter alone.

Bhanchawat has this to add, “KC Global Media Asia is fully committed to continue the hard work, and we look forward to working with partners who wish to collaborate and be united with us in sustaining the mission to reach viewers in Asia with even more outstanding content moving forward.”

Disheartened by the fact that she does not know them anymore, especially her rebel sister Jade, Emerald attempts to get closer to her by becoming her classmate. But to make things more complicated, Emerald finds out that their teacher is her ex-boyfriend (Rafael Rosell).

Emerald's plan completely backfires as she tries to meddle with Jade's decisions, including her relationship with her sister's suitor Kevin (Kyle Echarri). Her misunderstandings with Jade will also cause her relationship with Onyx and Ruby to turn sour.

Will Emerald be able to patch things up with her siblings in time for Christmas?

The iWantTFC original series is directed by @benedictmique and it also features Kim's hit song with the same title, which was inspired by a viral statement she made earlier this year. The Christmas remix of the song is now available on music streaming platforms.

Standard and premium subscribers will be able to watch "Bawal Lumabas: The Series" starting December 14 on the iWantTFC app (iOs and Android) or on iwanttfc.com. It will have six episodes with daily drops at 6 PM until December 19.

ABS-CBN 2020 Christmas Station ID Hits Million Views, Trends on YT and Twitter, Gets Praises from Netizens

ABS-CBN's 2020 Christmas ID "Ikaw Ang Liwanag at Ligaya" recorded 2.5 million views on Facebook and 1.3 million views on YouTube for a total of 3.8 million views less than 24 hours after it was launched on Tuesday (December 1), as its message that God is the source of light and love in the dark times resonated with the people.

The video featured inspiring stories of Filipinos who have proven during this pandemic that each one of us is capable of passing on God's light and bringing real joy to one another.

They include couple Arjanmar and Khaye Rebeta, who got engaged after the latter got discharged from the hospital after surviving COVID-19, and preacher Monching Bueno, who served frontliners by driving for them and sharing God's word to them.

The stories of pedicab driver Rodolfo Ariño, who despite his disability, still strives for his family, and Peter Roncales, who traveled to Samar on his bicycle to find ways to help his parents, also touched the hearts of viewers.

Also bringing light and joy are the inclusion of prayers in the video and the acts of kindness shown by the artists and programs in the Christmas ID. Rodolfo, for instance, received a new pedicab and other goods, while Peter's parents were sent home to reunite with him and were given a new source of livelihood.

With its touching stories, positive message, and powerful imagery, "Ikaw Ang Liwanag At Ligaya" emerged immediately as a trending topic on Twitter after its launch, and also became the top trending video on YouTube in the Philippines. It was made special with the presence of Kapamilya stars with ABS-CBN's chairman Mark Lopez, president and CEO Carlo Katigbak, and COO of broadcast Cory Vidanes.

As for @rjiezcen22, he remarked, "grabe kinikilabutan ako habang pinapanood 'yung buong CID ng Kapamilya. Naiiyak ako. Nakaka-touch at inspiring. I feel the love of family and God. Positive vibes. #IkawAngLiwanagAtLigaya."

As of December 7, the ABS-CBN Christmas ID already has 4.3 million views on YouTube and 4 million views on Facebook. Its lyric video released last November 27, meanwhile, already has 7.2 million views on YouTube and 11 million views on Facebook.

The ABS-CBN Christmas ID 2020 was created by the ABS-CBN Creative Communication Management Division headed by Robert Labayen, Johnny De Los Santos, and ABS-CBN COO of broadcast Cory Vidanes. The lyrics of "Ikaw Ang Liwanag at Ligaya" theme was written by Robert Labayen and Love Rose De Leon with music by Thyro Alfaro, and featured the voices of 20 Kapamilya artists.

It was a collective effort by Kapamilya stars, ABS-CBN News and TeleRadyo anchors and reporters, and regional MOR DJs in gratitude to the selfless generosity and love of Filipinos, who continue to be with us as we find new ways of serving the people and sharing light and joy to the nation.

"Ikaw ang Liwanag and Ligaya" also celebrates the unwavering public service of the ABS-CBN Foundation with Ernie Lopez and Berta Lopez-Feliciano, and the Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. led by Rina Lopez Bautista.
