Renowned Personalities Talk About the Premise of ‘The Mistress’

Renowned Personalities Talk About the Premise of ‘The Mistress’

With its fierce plot, brave confrontation scenes and its stellar cast, Star Cinema’s latest daring film “The Mistress,” topbilled by John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo, continues to stir up strong reactions from the public, including the active netizens in popular social networking sites and some of the well-known personalities in the country. Set to redefine everyone’s meaning of love and loyalty, “The Mistress” will hit theaters nationwide this Wednesday, September 12.

According to veteran broadcaster Mon Tulfo, he likes the newest film masterpiece of multi-awarded director Olivia Lamasan because of its realistic plot. He said, “Ang kwento ng ‘The Mistress’ ay talagang makatotohanan at nangyayari sa society natin. Kaya madami talagang tatamaan dito at mahahanap ang mga sarili nila.”

Aurora Representative Sonny Angara, meanwhile, got interested with the heated arguments of John Lloyd and Bea in the movie trailers. “Very interesting ‘yung nag-aaway sila. Nung ang assumption ni John Lloyd ay sinasamahan ni Bea si Ronaldo dahil sa pera. Pero sinabi ni Bea na mahal niya,” shared Rep. Angara. “Sa palagay ko magiging interesting ‘yun sa mga manonood dahil maiintindihan natin kung bakit ba nangyayari ‘yun.”

Similar with Cong. Angara, veteran singer-actress Pilita Corrales also got curious with the possible ending of the four-sided love story of “The Mistress.” She said, “I will definitely watch this kasi napaisip talaga ako sa kwento. Ano kayang mangyayari? Kanino mag-e-end up si Bea? It’s a very difficult situation having to love two different men in different situations.

Aldrin Cerrado, Rotary Club Makati East president, admired the life lessons that “The Mistress” will impart to its viewers. “All of us has something we really want to have in life. But no matter how hard we try, some things are just not really meant for us,” he said. “I think the movie teaches us about acceptance and forgiveness na ipinapakita ng apat na characters dito.”

Highly-acclaimed movie and TV actors Gretchen Barretto and Albert Martinez both salute the film because of its brave concept. “It’s a very interesting subject matter because there are four characters involved, four individual characters na lahat may mystery. Lahat sila may kanya-kanyang pains,” said Albert.

For me, ‘The Mistress’ is a masterpiece. Every scene and every dialogue is breathtaking,” Gretchen commented. “It happens everywhere, it’s so real. Gustong-gusto ko ‘yung linyang ‘walang babaeng pinangarap maging kabit.”

Aside from Bea and John Lloyd, also part of “The Mistress” are two of Philippine cinema’s finest actors namely Hilda Koronel and Ronaldo Valdez. Completing the cast are Carmi Martin, Anita Linda, Minnie Aguilar, and Clarence Delgado.

“The Mistress” is set to hit theatres nationwide on Wednesday, September 12, 2012.

Eugene Torre Wins Against Ferenc Berkes in World Chess Olympiad 2012

Eugene Torre Wins Against Ferenc Berkes in World Chess Olympiad 2012

Asia’s first Grandmaster (GM) Eugene Torre flashed his old deadly form by beating GM Ferenc Berkes to help the Philippines salvage a 2-2 draw against fourth seed Hungary in the seventh round of the World Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey.

The new grandfather rescued the Philippines from the jaws of defeat with a gritty 81-move victory on Board 3.

With the draw, the Philippines improved its total to 11 match points, good for a share of fourth spot behind solo leader Russian Federation (13 match points) and second placers China and Ukraine (12 match points each).

The Philippines trailed by a point after GM Oliver Barbosa lost to GM Almasi Zoltan on Board 2.

But the 60-year-old Torre turned a complicated position into his favor.

It was vintage performance from a man 34 years older than his opponent. The 27-year-old Berkes’ ELO 2685 rating is actually 216 points ahead of Torre’s.

Torre recently became a grandfather after his only daughter gave birth.

GMs Wesley So and Mark Paragua also produced impressive performances, holding their higher rated foes to draws.

So split the point with GM Peter Leko on Board 1 while Paragua halved the point with GM Csaba Balogh on Board 4.

Meanwhile, the Philippine women’s team bounced back from a sixth round defeat by toppling Portugal, 3-1.

Woman FIDE Master (WFM) Rulp Ylem Jose and Woman National Master (WNM) Jedara Docena scored the decisive points by beating WFM Ana Baptista and Woman Candidate Master (WCM) Sara Monteiro, respectively.

Woman International Master (WIM) Catherine Perena drew with WIM Caterina Leite, while WNM Janelle Mae Frayna split the point with Maria Oliviera on 3.

In the eighth round, the men’s team will meet England, while the women’s team goes up against USA.

Windows Phone 8 Nokia Lumia 920 Phones Photos and Specs

Windows Phone 8 Nokia Lumia 920 Phones Photos and Specs

Finnish phone manufacturer Nokia on Wednesday unveiled its latest bid at regaining smartphone market share bannered by the Lumia 920, one of the two phones powered by Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system.

In unveiling its latest flagship phone, Nokia underscored its need to differentiate in a quickly saturating smartphone market worldwide, as it pins its future on two key areas: photography and navigation.

The new Lumia 920, which features a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and 4.5-inch display, will come packed with an 8-megapixel camera sporting Nokia’s proprietary PureView technology, which Nokia claims takes better photos and videos than any competitor smartphone.

PureView, which debuted along with the Symbian Belle-powered Nokia 808 PureView this year, is a technology developed in-house by Nokia that purportedly takes better images, even in low-light conditions.

Nokia is claiming the PureView image sensor included in the Lumia 920 captures “between five to ten times” of light than any other smartphone, comparable to most dSLRs today.

On the navigation front, Nokia announced the availability of City Lens, an augmented-reality application that shows overlaid details on places as viewed through the phone’s camera.

The augmented reality feature extends to the popular Nokia Maps application, where the user would simply hold up the phone at eye level to see an overlay of map directions.

The new phones also come with wireless charging capabilities.

The Lumia 920 will come pre-packed with Windows Phone 8 (WP8), which is a re-worked version of WP7 that ties in the core development kernels of Microsoft’s next-generation PC operating system, Windows 8, set to be launched in late October.

Meanwhile, Nokia’s Lumia 820 features a 4-inch display encased in a polycarbonate body, and a first for Nokia’s Lumia devices, a removable back cover that gives access to the 1,650mAh battery and optional microSD storage.

It will be powered by a capable 1.5GHz dual-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM. It also comes with an 8-megapixel Carl Zeiss optics and a VGA front-facing camera.

The new phones come with wireless charging capabilities, although the feature is available on the Lumia 820 only via an optional detachable shell accessory.

They will come pre-packed with Windows Phone 8 (WP8), which is a re-worked version of WP7 that ties in the core development kernels of Microsoft’s next-generation PC operating system, Windows 8, set to be launched in late October.

The new Lumia phones will reportedly enter the market by the last quarter of the year, in time for Microsoft’s launch of Windows 8. Pricing details, meanwhile, have yet to be announced.

Nokia reportedly sold 7 million Lumia phones in 54 countries since it launched last year, with more than half of it being sold in the last quarter.

Joy Viado Accused of Shoplifting

Joy Viado Accused of Shoplifting

Comedienne, Joy Viado was one of the innocent shoppers accused of stealing at a grocery store.

They wanted to arrest me because I looked like the person in the wanted poster,” said Joy who is more popularly called as Lola Paula in “LUV U”. “Lola Paula was the one accused though, not me. I don’t think I have a look-alike because nobody else has this beautiful face,” the actress said laughing.

The trouble started when Lola Paula (Joy Viado) asked the cousins Camille (Miles Ocampo), April (Angeli Gonzales) and Whitney (Kiray Celis) to accompany her at Cherry Foodarama for some grocery shopping. They would only ask for Rocky’s (Igi Boy Flores) help but the two boys, JB (Marco Gumabao) and Boom (CJ Navato) would follow anyway. Instead of having fun, they will be burdened by Lola Paula’s shoplifting problem.

What will Lola Paula do to prove that she’s not guilty?

Find out in “LUV U” this Sunday (September 9) after “ASAP 2012” on ABS-CBN.

Sponsored by the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong, the event is in line with the celebration of the milestone achieved by the Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) campaign, which garnered 10,000 registered absentee voters in Hong Kong last month. The Artista Academy students are set to showcase their talents and introduce themselves to the thousands of overseas Filipinos who will attend the spectacular program.

Through their extensive training at the Asian Academy of Television Arts (AATA), they have learned to hone their talents and exude more confidence in everything they do.

During their recent courtesy call to the office of TV5 Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan, the students impressed the renowned business magnate with their good looks, wit, and charm. They asked intelligent questions that ranged from MVP’s secrets to success to his expansion plans for the network, which the chairman readily answered. TV5 President and CEO Atty. Ray C. Espinosa, EVP and COO Roberto B. Barreiro, and Creative and Entertainment Production Head Perci M. Intalan were also present to answer the students’ questions about the network’s identity and the management’s plans for Artista Academy.

We want to create loyalty, dedication and commitment to the station in the long term. So if you’re committed to us, we are committed to you,” MVP advised the Top 16.

The TV5 chairman extended his well wishes to all the Artista Academy students, saying that he looks forward to seeing them succeed in their respective ambitions. “It’s good that they are young and so into life, and they are intelligent. I wish them a good future with TV5. In many aspects, they represent the future of TV5 and our goal is to provide them the opportunity to shine as new talents of Philippine TV and film industry,” he shared.

Playing equally important roles are John Feir as Patrick, Ronnie Henares as Tommy, Mosang as Baby, Janna Dominguez as Maria, and Arthur Solinap as Robert. Completing the cast are the new characters who will make the lives of the Manaloto family more interesting – Jessa Zaragoza as Deedee and Nova Villa as Mimi.

Pepito Manaloto and his family’s rags to riches experience earned them a TV show, but because they thought it didn’t reveal the true story, they had the TV network responsible to scrap it. Instead, they came up with the idea to show exactly what goes on in the Manaloto household by having a camera crew film their lives 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The merry mix of characters of Pepito and his wife Elsa, their children Chito and Clarissa, their house help Patrick, Maria, Robert, Baby, and their neighbors Tommy, plus the mother-daughter tandem of Deedee and Mimi, will bring more color to the life story of Pepito Manaloto.

These different characters surrounding Pepito will definitely make his life a lot more interesting.

Follow the ordinary yet real life story of Pepito Manaloto as it premieres on September 16 and will air every Sunday right after Imbestigador on GMA Sunday Grande.

Piolo Pascual to Sing the Theme Song of ABS-CBN's Newest Teleserye 'Little Champ'

Piolo Pascual to Sing the Theme Song of ABS-CBN's Newest Teleserye 'Little Champ'

Kung Kailangan Mo Ako,” the official theme song of the newest ABS-CBN drama-fantaserye titled “Little Champ” as performed by Piolo Pascual will be heard first this coming Sunday, September 9, at “ASAP 2012”.

In time for its launch is a music video-trailer which will also be played simultaneously on MYX, Cinema One and DZMM Teleradyo while playing on Tambayan and My Only Radio (MOR) in regional areas.

According to Piolo, the theme song is very special because it’s the first and only teleserye theme song that has been recorded accompanied by a live orchestra - the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra. “When they said that I will be accompanied by a live orchestra, the first of its kind, I got very excited because we’re pioneering it. I’m so happy to be given this opportunity. This is a milestone for me,” said Piolo.

Having an orchestra play for a TV show isn’t ordinary, said Gerard Salonga, conductor of the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra. “This is the first teleserye in our country to be accompanied by a live orchestra. For a TV show to have such music, this means that ABS-CBN really strives to give its viewers only high quality shows.”

The creators of the new drama-fanstaserye, “Little Champ” said that they chose the song, “Kung Kailangan Mo Ako” as it fits the teleserye’s heroic theme.

“Little Champ” stars Senator Lito Lapid in his first TV teleserye appearance. Joining him are Jhong Hilario, Precious Lara Quigaman, Mickey Ferriols and Jake Roxas.
