Must-Read: Super Dads Share How Fatherhood has Transformed Their Careers

Fathers provide, protect, and persevere at home and at work. In celebration of Father’s Day, three fathers from Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, share how fatherhood has allowed them to become better versions of themselves, including at the workplace.

Martin: Evolving as a Leader and as a Father

Shopee Philippines Director Martin Yu has been leading teams to help businesses shift online through Shopee since 2017 and has seen the platform grow. As a father of two young boys, Martin has observed a common aspect between being a father and a leader that he now applies every day: the need to evolve. “When Shopee started in the Philippines, I had to be more of a coach, but as we grew and built up a larger team, I had to adjust my leadership style. I tried to foster a culture where my team is encouraged to speak up and contribute their ideas and initiatives. Now, my role is to ensure these align with our bigger business objectives.”

As a Father, Martin is mindful of how fast his sons are growing up and how he needs to similarly adapt his parenting style to keep up with their changing needs. “I encourage my children to try new things and try to be their buddy. I talk to my sons like we are friends now because they are developing their interests, and I want to encourage them to discover who they want to be in this fast-changing world. Looking ahead, I know I must adapt even more as they become teenagers and young adults.

Martin’s ultimate hope is that his work will inspire his kids to pursue impactful careers. “My sons are still young, but I think it’s never too early to teach them the value of meaningful work that significantly impacts society and empowers them to pursue a career path that offers that opportunity.”

Michael: Building more Meaningful Relationships

Before coming to work for Shopee Xpress as a partner rider two years ago, Michael worked as an overseas Filipino worker in Taiwan, just like his father. Growing up, he found it difficult to form a solid connection with his father since their relationship mainly consisted of online video calls. When Michael became a father four years ago, he knew he wanted to be a more present figure in his daughter’s life.

As a Shopee Xpress partner rider, not only is Michael able to provide for his family’s needs, but he can also play a more active role in the lives of his two children, aged two and four. “Bago nagsimula ang pandemya, balak ko talaga bumalik sa Taiwan para masuportahan ko ang aking pamilya. Nagpapasalamat ako nang lubos na nakakauwi ako sa aking mga anak araw-araw dahil sa aking trabaho bilang Shopee Xpress rider. Dahil dito, mas nagkakaroon ng meaning ang aking buhay at trabaho.” (Before the pandemic, I planned to return to Taiwan to continue providing for my family. I am grateful that my job as a Shopee Xpress partner rider allows me to come home to my children everyday. Being able to play an active role in their lives has given my life and my job more meaning and purpose.)

One of the things Michael is most proud of in life, is being a present father in the lives of his children. “Ang pinakamalaking inspirasyon ko sa buhay ay ang aking mga anak. Ipinagmamalaki ko na natutupad ko ang aking tungkulin bilang tatay sa kanilang buhay.” (My children are my biggest inspiration in life. It is very meaningful for me that I now get to fulfill my role as a father in a better way.)

Mark: Giving His Best as a Father and a Seller

Since becoming a father, Mark has learned what it truly means to work hard and persevere. He nearly lost his daughter nine years ago to biliary atresia, a rare condition that affected her liver and required her to undergo an expensive procedure abroad. By selling customized pillows on Shopee’s platform, Mark has been able to provide for his family’s needs, including his daughter’s regular medication.

As a father and a seller, Mark said, “Nine years ago, I fought to become a father, and I continue to fight for my family every day. When I started my online business, I struggled to get orders, but I persevered and gave my all for them. Selling through Shopee has allowed my family to reach many milestones like building a home and a warehouse. Everything I do, whether as a father or a business owner, is driven by my love for my wife and daughters. Till today, I continue to give my best every day, not just for my family, but also for my customers.

By embracing their roles as fathers, Martin, Michael, and Mark have come to understand better how to serve their customers and their teams in their respective roles as employees of Shopee and partners of Shopee Xpress. Their meaningful careers have enabled them to make a difference in the lives of others – both at home and in the workplace.

Love Who You Love: LGBTQIA+ Movies and Series About Loving Freely Now Streaming on iWantTFC for Free

Love is love - this is most especially true for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Whether you are straight, gay, lesbian, trans, or queer, you are free to love whoever you want. While it may seem easy, there are some who still struggle to love freely and iWantTFC is here to remind you to love who you love.

This Pride Month, iWantTFC has put together a selection of empowering movies and series about accepting same-sex relationships and accepting one’s sexuality and sexual preference. Here are LGBT-themed titles that you can stream for free:

The Boy Foretold by the Stars” and “Love Beneath the Stars

The movie “The Boy Foretold by the Stars” and its sequel series “Love Beneath the Stars” are everything you’d hope for in a Pinoy boys’ love (BL) story. With Adrian Lindayag and Keann Johnson’s portrayal of Dominic and Luke respectively, the story of two lovers from an all-boys Catholic school who end up falling in love and decide to break free from the constraints of society is beautifully highlighted.

In the coming-of-age story, Luke learns how to confront his sexual identity when he falls for Dominic, who is openly gay. While the movie and series feature a lot of puppy love moments, it also very much puts emphasis on having to deal with mature relationships and overcoming backlash from loved ones because of one’s sexual preference.

Bakit Lahat ng Gwapo May Boyfriend?

Whether you’re “out and proud,” “in the closet,” unsure of yourself, or simply just you, you can definitely learn a thing or two in “Bakit Lahat ng Gwapo May Boyfriend?” In this romantic-comedy film, wedding planner Kylie (Anne Curtis), who has had a string of boyfriends who turned out to be gay, is out to prove that her dashing client Diego (Dennis Trillo) isn’t actually straight.

In the process, Kylie finds herself falling in love with Diego, who in fact isn’t gay at all, and ultimately learns how to accept and be comfortable with her relationship with her gay best friend Benj (Paolo Ballesteros). While the movie is no means a boys’ love nor does it shun same-sex relationships, it teaches us to not judge people, to not allow others to define who we are or what we feel, and most importantly, it teaches us to embrace our sexuality no matter how we identify ourselves.

My Lockdown Romance

Having suppressed feelings for a friend is always a tough situation to deal with - this is what Tom (Jameson Blake), a closeted gay man, had to endure in “My Lockdown Romance.” Tom has always had a crush on his college best friend Kendrick (Joao Constancia) but is afraid to confess his feelings out of fear of losing their friendship.

In Star Cinema’s feel-good BL flick, the two male leads show viewers what it means to restore friendships and reignite feelings. Although Tom was insecure about coming out as gay, he eventually learned how to truly embrace who he is and his being honest also led to his special bond with Kendrick.

Boyette: Not a Girl Yet

Zaijian Jaranilla plays a flamboyant gay teenager and a straight boy at the same time in “Boyette: Not a Girl Yet.” In the movie, Boyette (Zaijian) pretends to be straight when his long-time homophobic crush Charles (Inigo Pascual) recruits him to a dance club. In an awkward yet hilarious twist, Nancy (Maris Racal), Charles’ crush, ends up getting smitten by Boyette instead.

While the film is very light-hearted, it effectively conveys an eye-opening message to its viewers - be unapologetically you and dismiss all the backlash about your sexuality because what’s important is your own happiness.

Fluid

This iWantTFC original series painstakingly shows everyone, whether you’re a member of the LGBT community or not, that it is A-okay to catch feelings for someone of the same gender and exploring these relationships is fine as well. Here, Mitch (Roxanne Barcelo) explores dating other women after multiple failed relationships with men.

Mitch then meets George (Ann Colis), a proud lesbian, who shows her what it truly means to fall in love. “Fluid” will teach viewers to be courageous in taking risks, learn how to whole-heartedly accept change, and that same-sex relationships can provide the same love and comfort just as heteronormative relationships.

2gether” and “Still 2gether

Thai BL series have become increasingly popular recently thanks to Bright Vachirawit and Win Metawin’s “2gether” series and its sequel “Still 2gether.” The swoon-worthy scenes between Tine (Win) and Sarawat (Bright) are a major contribution as to why viewers are easily hooked, but BL stories undoubtedly impart striking lessons as well.

In “2gether” and “Still 2gether,” viewers are able to relate to the characters as they come to terms with their sexuality. And while Tine and Sarawat navigate their feelings towards each other, they’re also dealing with their own personal struggles - which they eventually learn how to solve as a couple.

Viewers can also watch “Oh, Mando!,” “Mga Batang POZ,” “Die Beautiful,” “Third Party” and Thai titles “Bad Buddy,” “EnchantĆ©,” “Not Me,” “Baker Boys, and “Dark Blue Kiss.”

Celebrate Pride Month by watching these movies and series for free on the iWantTFC app (iOs and Android) and website (iwanttfc.com).

Problema’y dadaanan at hindi tatambayan
Kahit gaano kataas pa man ang kailangan na lampasan

5 Kilig-Filled-Almost-True-to-Life Scenes of KD Estrada and Alexa Ilacad in iWantTFC's “Run to Me”

Breakthrough love team KD Estrada and Alexa Ilacad have found comfort in each other in real life and also as their respective characters in the iWantTFC original series “Run to Me,” which is currently available for free on the streaming platform.

From total strangers, Wilson and Jewel (KD and Alexa) have become real friends who can confide in one another after they realized that they give each other a more meaningful perspective in life. Although they did not start off as the best of friends when they first met, Wilson and Jewel are forming a special bond, albeit unknowingly, with how they’ve helped each other overcome their struggles.

Here are five ‘kilig’-filled instances showing that Wilson and Jewel were always on the lookout for each other:

1. When Wilson ‘rescued’ Jewel from the kidnappers

When Wilson jumped into a car to rescue Jewel from a group of kidnappers, what was supposed to be his "prince charming moment" turned out to be the exact opposite. As he later discovers, he thwarted Jewel's "grand plan" because she staged the entire kidnapping to attract the attention of her mother Emerald (Mickey Ferriols).

Despite this, Wilson showed genuine concern for Jewel, even if they were complete strangers at the time, and this was the first time Jewel felt that someone truly cared about her.

2. When Wilson agreed to be Jewel’s fake kidnapper

Wilson and Jewel’s riotous journey began when Wilson officially agreed to be her fake kidnapper so that he could earn money for his mommy Bebot (Nikki Valdez), who is battling leukemia. In devising their plan, Wilson also gamely accepted to help Jewel gain her mother’s affection. The two of them are working hand-in-hand so that it’s a win-win situation for them - Jewel helps Wilson pay for his mom’s chemotherapy, while Wilson helps Jewel repair her relationship with Emerald.

3. When Jewel helped Wilson earn money

Wilson and Jewel’s relationship reached the next level when she made an effort to help him earn money by doing live singing sessions. Although they’ve only known each other for a while, Wilson and Jewel instantly grew very fond of one another and they showed that they truly care about each other’s well-being.

The two got even more close (literally) when they almost locked lips as Wilson laid his eyes on her while he was teaching her how to play the guitar.

4. When Jewel decided to take care of Wilson’s ailing mom

As if helping in raising money wasn’t enough, Jewel also went out of her comfort zone to help mommy Bebot by doing household chores. Jewel made it a point to learn how to wash her own clothes, cook rice, and wash the dishes – tasks she had never experienced as a “rich kid” but ended up enjoying them.

It was also Jewel’s idea to invite Aion (Karl Gabriel), a famous artist who mommy Bebot is a huge fan of, to meet her. Because of this, mommy Bebot was filled with extreme joy and she was able to forget about her problems even just for a while.

5. When Wilson and Jewel engaged in a heart-to-heart conversation

Wilson and Jewel both knew that they touched each other’s lives and made a significant impact on one another during their heartfelt conversation when Jewel was ready to return home to her family. As they exchanged kind words and thanked each other for helping them through difficult times, Wilson reminded Jewel to always look at the brighter things in life - “Bilangin mo kung anong meron kesa ‘yung wala ka. Piliin mong maging masaya kahit mahirap.”

Will Wilson and Jewel give in to their hearts’ desires and allow themselves to fall in love?

Don’t miss the last two episodes of “Run to Me” every Saturday at 8 PM on the iWantTFC app (iOs and Android) and website (iwanttfc.com). Four Eye-Opening Advocacies in “PBB Kumunity Season 10”

ABS-CBN’s “Pinoy Big Brother” has infused color in the dynamic history of Philippine entertainment.

The show’s hosts have become household names, “PBB” housemates have garnered a loyal legion of fans, and the scenes that unfolded inside the “pinakasikat na bahay sa Pilipinas” have made a mark among generations of Filipinos.

But beyond Kuya’s challenging tasks and the occasional clashes or romance blossoming among housemates that captivated audiences each season, “PBB” also helped raised awareness on many issues like the importance of our country's history, LGBTQIA+ acceptance, mental health, and the need to cultivate civic engagement in an effort to educate and encourage empathy among viewers.

Here’s a quick recap on some of those eye-opening moments that took place in the iconic show’s recently concluded “PBB Kumunity Season 10.”

1 WHEN ‘MAJOHA’ WAS ACTUALLY A REMINDER TO GIVE IMPORTANCE TO OUR COUNTRY’S HISTORY

If you make a major blooper on a hit reality show like “PBB,” expect it to spread like wildfire.

What seemed to be a funny mistake at first in a history quiz between teen housemates Gabb Skribikin and Kai Espenido turned out to be a wakeup call for Filipinos on how much our youth still know about our nation’s history.

Kuya also shifted the week’s focus to emphasize that lessons from the past should not be forgotten by making it part of the housemates’ weekly task. The teen housemates even went on a field trip with Filipino historian Ambeth Ocampo!

2 WHEN VIEWERS WERE TAUGHT THAT LOVE IS ABOUT ACCEPTANCE AND NOT TOLERANCE BY AN ADULT HOUSEMATE

Beauty vlogger turned adult housemate Raf Juane’s heartfelt story on how she came out as a transgender woman to her family was not just another touching moment on TV, it was also an eye-opening account on why love is truly about acceptance.

Kuya had a heart-to-heart conversation with Raf and her brother and co-housemate, Nathan Juane, inside the confession room to make viewers empathize with Raf’s story. During their conversation, Raf said that the first person she opened up to was Nathan who was “very open-minded and open-hearted” about her identity, according to Raf.

"I got to explain to him that I am not a boy, I do not cross-dress. I am a woman. And he [Nathan] was able to accept and not just tolerate me," Raf explained, saying that Nathan would even protect her from bullies.

3 WHEN CELEBRITY HOUSEMATES MADE VIEWERS REALIZE THAT IT’S OKAY NOT TO BE OKAY

Celebrity housemates KD Estrada, Alexa Ilacad, and Albie CasiƱo’s struggles with anxiety, body dysmorphia, and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), respectively helped bring the conversation on mental health to the forefront in a pandemic that triggered a rise in anxiety and depression.

To responsibly dig deep on sensitive topics to the public, “PBB” sought the help of its resident psychologist-psychiatrist Dr. Randy Dellosa, to help viewers understand better the conditions of KD, Alexa, and Albie.

Beyond relatability, viewers also realized the need to normalize conversations on mental health and how to show love and support to friends and family members with mental health conditions.

4 WHEN THE HOUSEMATES WOULD USE THEIR PLATFORMS TO RAISE AWARENESS ON DIFFERENT ADVOCACIES

The adult, celebrity, and teen housemates are all aware that they have the power to influence the public.

During their weekly tasks and Kumu livestreams, the housemates always use their voice wisely to put the spotlight on various advocacies. For instance, the adult housemates were instrumental in helping raise funds for the survivors of typhoon Odette by doing live selling in the Big Online 10Dahan under ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN Foundation’s “Tulong-Tulong sa Pag-ahon: Isang Daan sa Pagtutulungan” campaign.

The housemates were also more inspired when they took on tasks that enabled them to help NGOs that cater to different sectors.

“PBB” is not just a reality show that people watch for escapism. It’s also a show that makes viewers reflect on both the bright and harsh realities of life and inspires them to be better, kinder individuals as they witness the character development of the housemates.
