Pedro Calungsod Canonization as Saint Scheduled on October 21

Blessed Pedro Calungsod of Cebu will be canonized as a saint for the Roman Catholic Church on October 21, 2012 - 12 years after he was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2000.
Once canonized, Calungsod, a Cebuano missionary who was martyred in Guam in 1672 will become the second Filipino Catholic saint following Saint Lorenzo Ruiz, who was elevated to sainthood in 1987.

Born in Visayas in 1654, Calungsod was killed at the age of 18 while doing his missionary work on April 2, 1627, a day before Palm Sunday that year.
