There was a hush at Cinema 12 of Gateway Cineplex 18 as the screen showed a woman reaching for cocktail cans during the big reveal of the seven official entries in the full-length category of Puregold CinePanalo 2026. The cinematic moment sparked drama and excitement among the gifted filmmakers whose dream projects were set to come to life.

The seven feature films are:

As previously announced, each of the seven entries will receive a production grant of P5,000,000 and a chance to compete for the festival’s awards. The select feature films will be shown on screen alongside twenty short films made exclusively by student filmmakers.

In addition to the cinematic reveal videos, the event also showcased its retail roots by awarding each of the seven official entries with a giant stylized grocery receipt signifying their record- breaking production grant.

The upcoming 2026 Puregold CinePanalo is going to be the festival’s biggest installment yet,” says Puregold Senior Marketing Manager Ivy Hayagan-Piedad. “It was only right that we revealed the Top 7 films with a splash of our own.”

Puregold CinePanalo organizers likewise affirm that each of the seven film entries will surely amaze audiences and live up to the lofty expectations set by the success of its past festivals.

Puregold CinePanalo is giving its biggest grants to date, largesse that all seven participants truly deserve by showing us the passion, creativity, and ‘panalo sa husay’ spirit that only Filipino filmmakers can bring,” festival director Chris Cahilig says. “These films are going to make audiences laugh, cry, and everything in between. We can hardly wait for audiences to see what lies ahead at the festival.”

Now on its third year, the Puregold CinePanalo has served as a platform for intrepid Filipino filmmakers in crafting their dream projects, some of which were eventually selected to compete at international film festivals across Europe, Asia, and Africa. “Puregold has always believed in the power of supporting and nurturing Filipino artists,” says Hayagan-Piedad. “It is one of Puregold’s greatest prides that CinePanalo has grown to this level and given so many Filipino filmmakers the chance to produce world-class movies. We have no doubt that the seven films competing next year will be no exception.”

The 2026 Puregold CinePanalo will be held next year at the Gateway Cineplex 18 and Ayala Malls. Filipino-American Sam Morelos was Director Josh Boone’s “First and Only Choice” to Play Lexie in “Regretting You,” Now Showing!

In the movie adaptation of Regretting You, from best-selling author Colleen Hoover and director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars), Filipino-American Sam Morelos steals the scenes they’re in as Lexie, best friend of lead character Clara Grant (played by Mckenna Grace).

About 900 people submitted tapes for Lexie,” says Boone. “Sam Morelos was our first and only choice. They’re one of the most popular characters in any screening. They always get the most laughs.”

Regretting You tells the story of Morgan Grant (Allison Williams) and her daughter Clara (Mckenna Grace) as they explore what’s left behind after a devastating accident reveals a shocking betrayal and forces them to confront family secrets, redefine love, and rediscover each other. Regretting You is a story of growth, resilience, and self-discovery in the aftermath of tragedy, also starring Dave Franco, Mason Thames, with Scott Eastwood, Willa Fitzgerald and Clancy Brown.

Watch the trailer: https://youtu.be/eAQzHAFixzM

The character played by Morelos, Lexie, is Clara’s ride-or-die, her buddy since elementary school. “Lexie is just a fun, light presence,” says Morelos, a proud first-generation Filipino-American. “In a movie where there’s a lot of tension, Lexie is the knife that cuts it. I was laughing whenever I was on set – mostly at my own jokes.”

Watch some scenes of Lexie in this “Bestiecore” video:

Though Morelos hadn’t read the book before being cast to play Lexie, they became a fan of Colleen Hoover after working on the movie. “I have been familiar with Colleen Hoover’s work for a very long time but to be completely honest, I haven’t considered myself an avid reader since middle school,” they share. “My attention span has dwindled as I get older, so to get this job was such a gift because it gave me the opportunity to rediscover my love for reading. Since then, I became a very quick fan of Colleen and her storytelling. Lexie immediately piqued my interest because of how fun and magnetic she was in the audition scenes – it felt as though she was jumping off the page. I was so drawn to her and the story she had to tell that I knew I wanted this job.”

Aside from playing a really fun character, Morelos also enjoyed working with their fellow actors. “Everyone was a joy to work with,” says Morelos. “Allison was so interested in Gen Z vernacular and I became her guide. She started saying things like, ‘Slay the house down, Boots. Houston, I’m deceased.’ Dave Franco is so sweet and so curious.”

Regretting You is a movie best seen in cinemas with loved ones, says Morelos. “Everyone should watch Regretting You in theaters with their moms, their best friends, and their partners,” they say. “Watching this film in a cinema filled with that much love will make you want to hold your people closer, it’s that infectious. I want audiences to walk into the lobby talking about their own relationships – remembering the moments that you and your best friend got drunk after a big fight with your boyfriend, that night you had your first kiss and called your mom about it, and all the little moments that shaped your relationships in the long run. It’s a story of love that everyone can relate to in their own little way, which is what will make Regretting You so special to so many people.

Regretting You, from Paramount Pictures, is now showing in Philippine cinemas.

Global Superstars JISOO and ZAYN Unite for Blockbuster Duet "Eyes Closed"

South Korean superstar singer, actress, and international style icon JISOO unites with multi-platinum recording artist, songwriter, producer, and philanthropist ZAYN to release the epic new collaborative single “EYES CLOSED.” Set to expansive, genre-swirling production, the duet captures the nervous anticipation and thrilling freefall of diving into new love without looking back. Listen to “EYES CLOSED” HERE via Warner Records.

The momentous team-up arrives as JISOO continues to delight audiences on BLACKPINK’s Deadline World Tour, which has sold out stadiums on multiple continents already.

Meanwhile, ZAYN is set to kick off 2026 with his first-ever Las Vegas residency, marking the beginning of what will be a massive year as he gears up for his next chapter. Tickets are on sale now.

“EYES CLOSED” opens on a tender moment. “Time is standing still and I don’t want to leave your lips / Tracing my body with your fingertips,” sings JISOO, and ZAYN replies, “I know what you’re feeling and I know you want to say it / I do too, but we gotta be patient.” Their cinematic story unfolds as the soundtrack deepens - warm keys and raw acoustic guitar mix with throbbing bass synth, and loads of gravity-free atmosphere. Together, their soulful vocals make a vow as they build into the huge chorus: “Say, oh, we should fall in love with our eyes closed / Better if we keep it where we don’t know / The beds we been in, the names and the faces of who we were with / And oh, ain’t nobody perfect but it’s all good / The past can’t hurt us if we don’t look / Let’s let it go, better if we fall in love with our eyes closed.”

Earlier this year, JISOO released her highly anticipated debut mini album AMORTAGE led by the singles “earthquake” and “Your Love,” which she’s been performing during her solo set on tour with BLACKPINK. AMORTAGE is JISOO’s most comprehensive solo work yet and marked a “rebirth” of the global superstar. Taking its name from a fusion of “amor” and “montage,” the four-song set explores the emotional stages of love and the many vivid moments of a relationship. The release debuted at #1 on the South Korea Albums Chart and also spawned the dancefloor-shaking Sam Feldt remix of “earthquake.”

AMORTAGE has also solidified JISOO as a bona fide solo force of nature. Beyond generating nearly half a billion streams in less than 6 months, the set earned widespread acclaim. NYLON hailed it as “big, euphoric bubblegum pop that falls somewhere between Kylie Minogue and Carly Rae Jepsen,” and hypebae applauded how “the EP explores the different waves of love - from passion to heartbreak.” EUPHORIA. gave the mini album 4/5 stars, highlighting the way “the record speaks of the flaming nature of that oft-referenced and sung-about emotion we call love. In one, her love is so strong it could produce an earthquake and in another, cosmic laws are broken just because they’re together.” Plus, Billboard raved, “The BLACKPINK superstar delivers sonic surprises, confident vocals and radio-ready tracks to prove her global pop star status,” while NME proclaimed, “It’s refreshing to see JISOO make music as playful as her personality.”

ZAYN, known for his skyscraping vocals and hybrid style of pop and R&B, has left an indelible mark on pop culture. He made history with his debut solo album Mind of Mine, becoming the first UK male solo artist to debut at No. 1 on both the UK and US album charts in its first week of release. The album’s lead single, “PILLOWTALK,” hit #1 in 68 countries around the world and has since been certified 5x platinum by the RIAA. In 2024, he released his raw and revealing fourth studio album, ROOM UNDER THE STAIRS, via Mercury Records to critical acclaim, and embarked on his first-ever solo tour across the US, UK, and Mexico. Most recently, ZAYN collaborated with Borderlands 4 to release “Break Free,” an original song created for the latest installment in the popular video game franchise.

Attracting over 79 million Instagram followers and generating billions of streams, JISOO launched her meteoric solo rise in 2023. She earned accolades and made history with her debut single album, ME, which immediately became the best-selling album by a solo female artist in South Korea and the first to sell more than 1 million copies. With her breakout single “꽃 (FLOWER),” JISOO also became the first female K-pop solo artist to achieve 1 million preorders - before tallying the highest first-week sales by a female solo artist to date and the highest 24-hour viewership of any K-pop music video in all of 2023. The song also broke records for the highest-charting hit by a solo Korean female on the Canadian Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. Stateside, it catapulted to #2 on the Billboard Global 200 and #1 on the Global Excl. U.S. Chart.

Along the way, JISOO’s influence has also spread across fashion and culture. She has served as a global ambassador for Dior, Cartier, and Dyson in addition to being named the face of ALO Yoga in 2024. That same year, she made waves as “the most-mentioned celebrity during New York Fashion Week” on social media. Plus, she stars in the K-Drama series Newtopia, streaming now on Prime Video. And, of course, she launched her career as part of global girl group BLACKPINK, selling out stadiums, winning numerous awards, and captivating millions of fans worldwide.

Noli De Castro Unleashes New Scarejumps in "Kababalaghan VII: Pagkagat ng Dilim"

This Halloween season, ABS-CBN dares viewers to face their fears once again as “Kababalaghan VII: Pagkagat ng Dilim” premieres this October 26 (Sunday) from 9:15pm to 10:30pm on A2Z, Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live (KOL), and ABS-CBN News Youtube Channel.

Hosted by Kabayan Noli de Castro, the long-running Halloween special returns with all-new stories of real-life hauntings and supernatural encounters that will keep audiences gripping their seats and second-guessing every shadow in their homes.

This year’s spine-tingling edition unearths eerie happenings caught on camera, haunted spaces that refuse to rest, and ordinary people who found themselves face-to-face with the extraordinary. From cursed mirrors and restless spirits to unseen forces lurking in the dark, “Kababalaghan VII: Pagkagat ng Dilim” promises to blur the line between the living and the dead.

Featuring three different stories filled with horror, supernatural and overall spookiness:

In “Lagusan,” a century-old house in Pangasinan becomes a gateway for restless spirits. Locals claim that a mysterious antique mirror opens a passage to the other side, unleashing footsteps, slamming doors, and ghostly doubles that wander after dark. When the portal opens, it seems like escape will no longer be an option.

Meanwhile in Pampanga, “Bodega” reveals how memories can trap more than just emotions. What was once a simple storage room turns into a dwelling place for vengeful spirits, captured in real CCTV footage. A reminder that not all things from the past should be kept as some are better left forgotten.

And lastly, in “Photobomber,” a joyful class reunion turns into a nightmare when an unfamiliar dark figure appears in a group photo. What’s more haunting is that the presence behind the picture isn’t an illusion but a spirit that lingers, watching, and making itself known in ways in their lives that they can no longer ignore.

Brace yourselves for a night of suspense, mystery, and true Filipino horror that only Kabayan Noli De Castro can tell.

View it earlier: “Kababalaghan VII: Pagkagat ng Dilim” will be available on IWant on October 18, 2025.
