Kapuso Stars Visit Philippine Army Battle Casualties in CDO, Experience a Meaningful Kagay-an Festival
GMA-7’s Sana Ay Ikaw Na Nga lead stars Mikael Daez and Andrea Torres with Gabby Eigenmann, together with Hindi Ka Na Mag-iisa cast members Angelu de Leon, Frank Magalona, Carl Gueverra, and Krystal Reyes experienced a meaningful Kagay-an Festival as they visited some of today’s modern heroes at the Camp Evangelista General Hospital last August 25.
The Kapuso stars made time to personally visit some of the Philippine Army battle casualties – most were victims of the recent Marawi incident – after giving out loads of fun and entertainment to Kagay-anon fans who showed up in Barangay Calaanan and Pelaez Sports Center for the Kapuso Barangayan and Meet and Greet, respectively.
For Mikael, the experience they had was truly enlightening. “It was an eye opening experience to see and talk to the casualties who have devoted their lives to serve their country. To actually witness how committed they are to serving the Philippines was so inspiring. Even after their traumatic and near fatal injuries, they are still determined to continue serving,” he said.
On the other hand, Angelu shared how proud she is of the Philippine Army, “I salute our military men because of what they are willing and able to offer for our country. I am really honored that I was given the privilege to spend some time with them. I pray for their fast recovery,” she said.
Also joining in the celebration of the Kagay-an Festival were Aljur Abrenica, Kris Bernal, Mark Herras, Steven Silva, Rochelle Pangilinan, Krizza Neri, the La Diva, Bejamin Alves, Ryza Cenon, Yassi Pressman, Pekto, John Feir, Bianca King, and Heart Evangelista.
Last August 24, Aljur and Kris – lead stars of the upcoming primetime series Coffee Prince – led Kapuso stars Mark, Steven, Rochelle, and Krizza in spreading the cheers to the local residents of Barangay Indahag and students of Capitol University via the Kapuso Barangayan and Kapuso Campus Tour. They were also joined by the La Diva in the Kapuso Night that happened at the SM Grounds afterwards.
On August 26, Kapuso comedians Pekto and John, together with GMA Cebu’s Anna Maris Igpit and GMA Davao’s Resci Rizada hosted GMA Network’s live coverage of the Kagay-an Festival 2012 Cultural Street Dancing Competition and Golden Float Parade in CDO. Anna, who is also a beauty queen title holder, served as one of the judges for the search for the Ms. Kagay-an.
Benjamin, meanwhile, graced the Civic, Military and Golden Float Parade that attracted an estimated crowd of 20,000 last August 27.
The following day, Luna Blanca stars Heart, Bianca, Ryza, and Yassi capped off the festivities with an exciting Kapuso Mall Show at Limketkai Mall.
Says Oliver Amoroso, AVP for GMA Regional TV, "This year's Kagay-an Festival has indeed become a truly meaningful experience for all of us. It was not just the usual showcase of entertainment but rather a celebration filled with compassion and love from the Kapuso Network. Our utmost gratitude to all our event partners, especially to the Philippine Army for warmly welcoming us."
The full details of the Network’s participation in the Kagay-an Festival will be featured in the Let's Fiesta TV special airing on September 16 via the Network’s regional stations in Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Dagupan, Ilocos, GenSan, Bacolod, and Bicol. The TV Special will air in CDO on September 23.
